Well here is what Hadlee thinks about the current no.1 Indian team. The point he makes about how India plays outside is perfectly right.

New Delhi, Jan 23 (PTI) India deserves to be the number one Test side in the world but their stay at the top would depend on how they perform away from home, feels legendary New Zealand all-rounder Richard Hadlee.

"The Indian cricket team is clearly the number one in the world. They deserve it due to some very good performances.

The big challenge for the Indian team now is to perform outside the sub-continent," Hadlee told reporters here on the sidelines of a seminar to promote New Zealand as an investment destination.

"When you are the number one team, you have to perform off shore on foreign soil. That will be the big challenge for India, to win matches outside the country against the likes of South Africa," he added.

Hadlee said India will face stiff challenge from other good sides like Australia and South Africa.

What do you expect some one to say in this situation. :p

India has made great strides to being called a seriously challenging team, winning in Eng and NZ was something they were never capable of for a long time. They really have to win something in SA and Aus, then back it up over time to be called a true number one side. As we've seen with England (05)and SA (09) beating Australia they then didnt back it up and went backwards. India should be aiming to be consistent, which they may struggle when their gun 3 4 5 batsmen all retire surely in the next few years, back to number 4 or 5 then I guess.

I think Hadlee was supposed to say "India dont deserve to be No. 1". :p It looks like a printing error. :laugh

Indian and England should play 3 matches in home and away situation to find out who is number one.

I don't think the batting is anything to worry about - there are tons of top replacements. Take for example, Murali Vijay, who has come in and done well in the 2 test matches he's played in. The bowling is more of a concern. India don't seem to be developing world class bowlers.

So Hadlee says "India deserve to be number 1 " and in the same breath asks for people (Indians) to invest in NZ.

Prostitution much?

Hadlee has said even before that this Indian side deserves to be the best side in the world (according to rankings). Its not as if he is saying it just now to get people to invest in NZ (or something).
