Is this televised?

Of course. Field Hockey is a big sport (not as big as cricket) and has decent following in Europe (quite popular in Germany and Netherlands) as well as the second biggest in the subcontinent(also the sport where India and Pakistan have been most successful other than cricket). I`m pretty sure the Aussies and the Kiwis play a reasonable amount of hockey and so do the Spanish and South Africans.

You might not be aware of all this though as you are from the USA.

Yea field hockey is unheard of here. Its mostly played by girls in middle school. Wish I could get it on TV, want to see how the men play it.

This is what I found on the FIH website:
Spanning all five continents, the Hero Honda FIH World Cup’s list of broadcasters and expected coverage is as follows. Please check local schedules for full details:

- Ten Sports (cable and satellite; India Subcontinent) – all matches live
- Astro Super sports (cable and satellite; Malaysia, Indonesia) – all matches live
- Starhub – (cable and satellite, Singapore) – all matches live or delayed
- PTV (terrestrial, Pakistan) – PAK matches and final
- NOS (terrestrial, Netherlands)– extended daily highlights and live coverage of selected matches
- Sport 1 (cable and satellite, Netherlands) – all matches live
- Teledeportes (digital terrestrial, Spain) – ESP matches and final
- Sport Digital (cable and satellite, Germany) – schedule TBC
- ARD/ZDF (terrestrial, Germany) – extended news
- Deutsche Welle (worldwide) – extended news
- Zee (cable and satellite; UK) – all matches live
- Cricket Plus (cable and satellite; USA and Canada) – all matches live and delayed
- ESPN Sur – (cable and satellite; Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay) – all Argentina matches plus final
- SKY SPORTS – (cable and satellite, New Zealand) – NZ matches and final
- FOX Sports (cable and satellite, Australia) – AUS matches and final
- Showtime – (cable and satellite; Middle East) – all matches live
- Supersports (cable and satellite, pan-Africa) – RSA matches and final

Internet pay per view – all matches available live and on-demand via WorldHockey.org

- Highlights available free via WorldHockey.org
- BBC Online – extended news
- Telegraph.co.uk – coverage TBC
- Sport1.de – all matches live

Hope it is useful. Looks like the least you could do is watch the highlights free via WorldHockey.org or handpick a few games like the Semis or Finals and watch it online. Believe me, it is a really fast-paced sport. For skill hockey, try and watch India-Pakistan play. The subcontinental style of hockey is very different to the European style although the artistry and dribbling don`t get us the results against the fitter and faster Europeans.

Just try to get hold of a stream for the India-Pakistan game tonight (20:35 IST). That should be real fun.

aditya123 added 8 Minutes and 12 Seconds later...

Ten Sports showed that Compaq Cup tri-series free on their website. They could surely have done something like that and streamed a few matches from this WC for free, at least for users from the US/Canada.

I saw this now. :doh
I'd had placed a bet of at least 500K on India.

Anyways, will do that next time.
Great to see India win 4 - 1.

A little late there buddy. This event closed a few days ago.
