Hi

I'm currently in my 2nd year and doing great but focusing on ALL formats ie. 4 day (playing for Qld), one dayer and 20/20. so far, I'm getting good attention from the Aust one day team and 20/20 (incl IPL) and am already 'a member' of a T20 club in county cricket even though I'm half way through the season.

Anyway, my ultimate goal is to open for Aust in tests. From what I've read its extremely difficult to get there until say you're promoted to state captain or something.

My question is - now that we have simulate, is it worth just simulating all the shield matches and focusing on the shorter forms (one dayers, 20/20) instead? A four dayer takes a heck of a lot of time to play out esp if you're batting through it (I'm an opener) and I'm only 17 ingame.

For getting selected for international side you need to perform exceptionally.
I averaged over 50 in FC for full 2 season in shield cup, I went on to increase this average to 60 in county cup after that I got a call from national side.
In list I averaged in 70s in first 2 season but no national call up , now my average is in low 50s. Status is fair chance . Where as in t20s my first two seasons were forgettable, I scored 117 and 116 respectively.
In season 3 my performance improved now I am at getting attention for IPL.

About simulation of career games
Like all Indian players I avoided playing first class matches after getting into test team, but after a dream start I struggled against SOuth Africa and Srilanka, so I went back to domestic cricket to get my touch back.

Now if you only want to play shorter formats then you can simulate all 4 day matches , it's a 20 year career(if you started as 16 yo) so you can play this format later on if you want and you will get ample time in your career to build a successful career in that particular format.

yeah fair enough, I might do that. I only read somewhere on here about guys only getting selected once they made captain of their state sides (late 20s).

Nope i got selected before i made captain, i was only 18 at that time :D

Having not been able to ever be selected for anything other than the first class teams and the basic competition at the start. Do you need to be a captain later in your career? Or can you just play internationally and choose never to be captain?

yes you need to be, if you're performing good then you will be installed as captain of your team and you cannot undo that.

can you choose NOT to be captain? the thought of seeing out whole matches would drive me insane.
Even if you're captain you can still simulate everything except your own batting/bowling with the AI taking over the decision making.

Thanks for that MattW, I guess I would prefer to just be a core player but never a captain. I really don't have time to sit through the whole match and choose the bowling line up and what not. I know you can simulate past it all but really goes against being the captain in the first place.

Not a biggie though and I am still so far off being picked for any international team I'll just keep enjoying the game as is :)

Don't prefer to be captain either as it takes forever on PS3 to get through the toss process. I would rather simulate to my career player at the earliest which you can't if you are the captain.

ah ok, so you're sort of Captain in name only kinda thing. Fair enough. Are you able to change anything as captain? ie. players, batting lineup, bowlers, field sets? Sorry, never played long enough to get to that point.

If you don't simulate, you can choose the in-match bowling/batting line up, the field and do things like take powerplays or declare.

A major bug is that if you change your own batting position you will relinquish the captaincy, because it appears to be tied to your position in the batting order.

Once you simulate it will go back to how it is in other matches - the batting lineup will stick, but the AI will take over things like choosing bowlers, setting the field and will declare on you.

Outside of the individual matches you have no extra abilities, you still can't change the selection of the team, or move the batting order before the match starts (so you can never change the openers).

It's overall pretty pointless as it currently stands.

You could simulate a certain amount of overs and change things like bowler for instance. That's what I would do anyway if I became captain
