“Here to Win, nothing else” An exclusive interview with the Diamond Eagles captain, Yash Hirani, just before the major revolution in the Cricket System with the start of ACC. The Report by Hamish Stevenson.
Stevenson : Welcome Sir! How do you feel to be announced the captain of the Diamond Eagles? Yash : It is an honor for me. I saw this coming. I I have been a part of this club since a long time. Have won many championships with this, including two Champions League T20s and one IPL. Now it is an honor for me to go on and league this great team in the newest Cricket Tournament, personally supervised by the ICC Chairman, Mr. Rudolph Struwig.
Stevenson : What do you say about your team? What do you feel yourself strong in? Yash : This is a really strong squad that we have gathered together. Though the names may sound a bit familiar, they all are fresh faces that have been picked newly from our best academies around the world. I feel that our bowling is really strong led by our bowling specialist and vice captain Sourav Dravid. Hope for great performances in the league.
Diamond Eagles' captain, Yash Hirani has great faith in the Vice-captain, Sourav Dravid.
Stevenson : What do you say about your home ground? What is the main thing you want to achieve from this tournament?
Yash: Our home ground, Mount Manganui was picked by me only. I really like the elegance of this ground with the hill around and the great atmosphere. We also have increased the capacity so we can get more and more fans to see us compete this championship. I just believe in one thing, Winning. Here to win, nothing else. We have the skills and we will perform. Beware opponents.
So the Diamond Eagles captain, has given some confident comments there. Now we all wait for the start of this league to see how there confidence pans out. Stay tuned to CricFlix news. Hamish Stevenson, signing off.
“They can be the greatest pace duo of the Modern Era” An analysis of the Diamond Eagles’ bowling prowess.
Bowling Jaffas by Chaminda Vaas.
The ICC’s newest creation, led by their young president, Rudolph Struwig, Addidas Club Championship, is about to beign. So I went through the squads that had been announced thus far. On analysing the club, Diamond Eagles, I must say they have a formiddable bowling attack.
Whenever I see their squad, my eyes first goes to the name, Waqar Akram. Honestly, I have seen that guy bowl and played a few of his deliveries, and you don’t want to be the batsman when he is bowling. That left armer bowls in excess of 145 clicks consistently and can swing the ball both ways. He has a vicous bouncer too. And even if the pitch is a dead rubber or an excessive spin bowling pitch, this guys just brute pace can be heavy for the batsman. Certainly a guy to look out for in this tournament.
Chaminda Vaas warns the batsmen to be wary of this Waqar’s pace and bounce.
If the first pacer has the pace and swing, the second is accurate as hell. Brett McGrath, although a bit slow with an average speed about 133, is a great asset to this team. He can bowl with pin point accuracy with the new ball, taking as much advantage of the pitch as possible. But the best thing about him is his old ball play. He bowls yorkers right on the money and has some mean slower balls up his sleeves. If the pitch is just a little bit helpful, he can rip apart lineups.
I also saw that he and Waqar are good friends and like bowling together. They can become the greatest pace duo of the modern era. I also saw that he and Waqar are good friends and like bowling together. They can become the greatest pace duo of the modern era.
Brett can nail yorkers for fun, says Chaminda Vaas.
The third pace bowler, Ishant Broad, seems to be an exciting prospect, although I have not heard or seen much of him. Let’s hope he turns out good like the other 2 pacers.
Then their spinner, Shane Muralitharan, was just too intelligent a bowler. A mystery spinner, with a really strong googly and a clever leg break, this bowler can leave the batsman wonder, “Where the hell did that come from?” He always remains one step ahead of the batsman. And if the pitch isn’t turning, then he has a mean flipper and surprising zooter to go with it. Play him with caution or he’ll make a mockery out of you.
Leg Break, Googly, Flipper, Zooter, he’s got it all. Chaminda Vaas is really impressed by Shane Muralitharan.
That’s it for the bowlers of this team. Coming up will be Kevin Pietersen with the batting analysis and James Franklin with the analysis of the all rounders of the Diamond Eagles. Stay tuned to CricFlix News. Thats it from Chaminda Vaas.
