Plus, the pitches aren't slow and low as you would expect in Asia

I really hope england dont play there test side- people who have hardley played 20-20 cricket. We should get the best county players together and if we do that i think we have a good chance

I think we have a pretty good chance. Lots of naturally aggressive cricketers. Sri Lanka are a tough side to have in the pool but none the less, if we are the best we'll win it.

Australia obviously have to be favorites. Accurate bowlers and more importantly they have big hitters.

I agree with the England comment. They're going to need to inject some county performers with good strike rates if they want to put up a fight.

I doubt theres much chance of upsets in the pool stage. Bangladesh may have a small chance of upsetting West Indies.

Well, as I have said before because of the nature our (Englands) international summer and winter. Our games with India et el, finish very soon before the Twenty20 World Cup starts. It would therefore be more sensible to give the Test team the time to rest, and play a bunch of county pro's who have excelled in the county Twenty20's. Then our chances of winning are greatly increases and the usual players do not suffer from fatigue before the winter tour.

good point...but it does provoke the question: what are india gonna do and who will they play? You need the likes of Dhoni, Yuvraj, Tendulkar and perhaps Ganguly in the 20/20 squad! But these players will need some rest as well! I guess some of these players might be rested in some of the england games....but what if that series is tight? India wouldnt really want to just blow it off!

Exactly. I mean I don't know what the standard of Twenty20 is like in India, but I'd suggest that sending specialists would be the best eventuality for all of the participating sides.

in all honesty, i dont think india have been playing domestic 20/20 cricket long enough to actually know what their best side for this format of the game is. There was one tournament...a few good performances by a few unknowns...but on the whole..nothing too special IMO...india will send their ODI side to SA TBH

I think we can all agree that planning a 20-20 world cup so close to the end of a mammoth ODi series (and tour/summer in England) is quite stupid. But, whatever fills the pickets of the big boys goes.

Pakistan vs India should be a good game. Battle of the World Cup minnows!
I'd laugh if they were both eliminated in the group stages again! Aha, or isn't it possible?

I'll watch it, I'd still prefer to watch a ODI or a Test Match though.

Australias preliminary 30 man squad has been announced.

George Bailey, Nathan Bracken, Luke Butterworth, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Dan Cullen, Brendan Drew, Adam Gilchrist, Brad Haddin, Shane Harwood, Matthew Hayden, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, James Hopes, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Andrew McDonald, Ashley Noffke, Marcus North, Ricky Ponting, Luke Ronchi, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, Shane Watson, Cameron White.

It will be cut down to 15 in mid-july.

I think the squad should be

Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Symonds
M. Hussey
White
Watson
Hogg
Lee (if fit)
Bracken
Tait (if fit)

Back Ups
Hodge
Voges
Harwood
Hilfenhaus

I don't have Clarke in my squad because I don't believe he is/will be a good twenty20 player. He is generally a pusher and doesn't hit big power shots like a Symonds, or a Hayden, therefore I think we'd be better off with proven big hitters and 20/20 batsmen in Hodge, Voges and White

India and Pakistan should both go through to round 2 unless we have a really huge upset of the Scotts beating either of the 2.

I don`t know why you`d be laughing anyway ? A true cricket fan will be hoping for the best sides to reach the business end of the event, so as to avoid dead games and flagging interests like inthe 50Fifty world cup.

India and Pakistan will bring the crowds into the stadia, IMO.

Which is the greater issue. Consistent bounce doesn't equal high scores if you can't get the ball off the square. The speed off the pitch and over the field is what creates large totals. The field in particular is underrated because you don't have to attack every single ball; if one ball an over gets weird bounce, the batsman can still quite conventionally score 5-20 runs in the over while playing defensively once. What is the difference, though, is that on a heavy outfield, the ball just can't make it to the fence often enough. On a smooth and perfectly trimmed field, shots race away so fast that what would otherwise be a single to the outfielder, is over the line before he can dive.

I don't think Clarke would be useless, but I agree, he wouldn't be the best.

I reckon it'd suck if Hodge didn't make the first team. The interesting thing is whether Watson will be needed to cover a 4-over gap. Symond's variety will be much more useful if he can use it constructively and though White is admittedly cheese (Hodge himself could also be of use), he'd scarcely be needed for more than a few balls and in my opinion, getting our most experienced T20 batsman out there is more important.

Pretty much spot on with the side I would go with. Devastating bowling and devastating batting perfect!
