2011 World Cup Squad Prediction Thread

World cup is always full of surprises. I will not be surprised to see any of the above four teams in Semis.

I'd go:

Marsh
Clarke
Ponting
Hussey
Ferguson

Watson
White
Smith

Haddin
Paine

Johnson
Tait
Bollinger
Harris
George

India will have to make a tough choice between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. I have a feeling that they may go for Kohli given that he has been more successful recently and his performances have stood out.
Sharma, on the other hand can mature into a Test bat and is a likely candidate for the replacement of one of the Fab Four Indian Greats.

Why are people still bumming for Rohit Sharma? He hasn't done ANYTHING of note ever! Seriously, he is one of our worst investments, second only to the Great Ravinder Jadeja.

England XV:

1. Andrew Strauss
2. Steven Davies +
3. Kevin Pietersen
4. Ian Bell
5. Paul Collingwood
6. Eoin Morgan
7. Michael Yardy
8. Stuart Broad
9. Graeme Swann
10. Ajmal Shahzad
11. James Anderson

12. Tim Bresnan
13. Jonathan Trott
14. Craig Kieswetter
15. Samit Patel

Unlikely that Patel will be picked, but he's the perfect guy to fill in for Yardy if something goes badly wrong for him. I'd certainly prefer him to Wright anyway. Would like Napier in for Bresnan, and then have him in at 10 too, but that aint gonna happen.

Well we can still hope sense prevails & Napier can still make the final squad.

If Shazad/Finn get game in the ODIs in AUS this christmas & fails. While Naiper presuming he returns well from his back injury & does well in NZ. Then it will becoming increasing hard not to pick Napier.

Patel TBF wont be a good replacement for Yardy. Patel bowling is very part-timeish & batsmen could target him. Yardy bowling is fairly decent/soild vs internatioanl batsmen.

So if something happens to Yardy. I would probably pick Peter Trego. What do you think about him?. Looking back @ the times i say him for Somerset this season, i really think he could make as international quality in ODI/T20 you know, a bit more than Luke Wright.

Looking at the current stand of things, it seems pretty clear we are nowhere near the Semi Finals. Nearly all the other teams have a genuine XI, I think no one can predict the starting XI of Pakistan right now.

I would personally regard the tournament as a success if we get out of the first round.

Shahzaib
Kamran
Malik
MoYo
UAkmal
Afridi
Alam
Razzaq
Gul
Ajmal
Akhtar

Younis/Misbah
Shafiq
Riaz
Abdur Rehman

Actually looks like a potent XI. Shahzaib Hasan has a crap technique but should be in the team considering the pitches available. I think we have got a nice blend of sloggers and stability :p
Razzaqs place is in doubt though, he only holds on due to his destructive batting, cuz I reckon he is going to be eaten on Indian tracks.

If only we had Aamir or Butt...:facepalm

Indian Cricket Squad for World Cup 2010

Batsmen :)
1. Gambhir
2. Sehwag
3. Virat Kholi
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Suresh Raina
6. Yuvraj Singh
7. Robin Uthappa

Bowlers:help
1. Praveen Kumar
2. Zaheer Khan
3. Harbajan Singh
4. Prajian Ohja
5. Ashish Nehera
6. Ravichandran Ashwin

Wicket Keepers:hpraise
1. MS Dhoni
2. Dinesh Karthik

I think the squad put up by venkat is almost perfect. It may just see one of the spinners making way for a fast bowler or one of the Pathans. Otherwise, I think this will be the World Cup squad barring any injuries that may occur.

Expect Dhoni to lead with Gambhir doubling up as the deputy.

Dopey twat! LOL! :doh I copied the possibles and left George in there. Should be McKay.

Hehe. McKay might not look like much but he certainly gets the job done.

Really tempted to bring Hastings over Hopes now, it is a shame if we don't get the 3rd ODI to get another look at him in India. His bowling is clearly better and his batting would be about the same level.

The Aussies should persist with the same squad against SRL too, if they want to test their bench strength. It is only a 3 match series and the Tests against England are more important to them.

For Australia to win the world cup

australia need to have brett lee and shaun tait, our present bowling attack just isn't good enough to win. We then might have a chance. :yes

Agree with this mostly. If Watson is bowling well enough I don't see the need for Hopes. And if Hastings can bat as high as #7, then that gives us better bowling options. If he can't handle batting that high, then I'm not sure there's a massive use for him since Johnson, Lee and Hauritz are all decent enough #8s to me and would be more useful bowlers.

I think for team balance, Smith is the wildcard. If he plays well enough this summer then the #7 spot can be his. If not, then I think it goes to Ferguson/Hussey/Haddin and Watson and Clarke play as the 5th bowler.

Hastings would be in there more as the replacement rather than first 11. His bowling seems to be effective enough to play as a bowler and if Watson isn't going so well then he could go into the 7 spot. Smith should have no problem in the batting department, bowling hasn't been great but to be fair he hasn't been given a proper go.

Ricky Ponting in disguise? ;) Australian news: Ricky Ponting dreams of Brett Lee and Shaun Tait at World Cup | Australia Cricket News | Cricinfo.com
Having both in the squad would be good but don't know about them two plus Johnson in the starting 11. Would be a bit like the T20 WC where we look great when they are on song but not so good when they aren't. Bollinger seems to be consistent in the wicket taking department while also being economical so he would be one to keep.
