ENGLAND v BANGLADESH - Game 1
Day 1
This game at Sussex was the first 3 Day International to ever be held in it's new format.
For over a month, with great conjecture and strict planning, the ICC fine-tuned and proposed the latest format of the game played by gentlemen; as 10 nations agreed to participate in the round robbin tournament for World Cricket's newest prize - The Shield.
Cook won the coin toss and chose to bat on a soft and juicy green wicket. The opener posted the unwanted record of the First Duck in the game's new format, Bowled third ball to a cutting Mustafizur Rahman delivery. The Left arm opening quick would go on to record first-innings figures of 3 for 50 in a well remembered 12 over spell, as the hosts were all out 6 for 99 at lunch.
Bangladesh took to the crease with a possible 214 overs still left in the match. With the pitch offering plenty for the quicks, it was Ali who suprised everyone by capturing the first Bangladesh wicket in the 16th over. The Host's would take three Bangladesh wickets by tea in an evenly fought session.
Rahim fell to Woakes straight after tea. At 4-93 with two wickets in hand and a deficit of 6 runs; the game was very evenly balanced. Sarkar and Al Hasan dug in bravely through the final session on the bowler friendly wicket, with the opener reaching his century off 153 watchful deliveries.
Bangladesh closed the Day 4 for 183. A lead of 84 runs with 2 first innings wickets in hand.
