IT CONQUERED the Oscars with six gongs, now The Hurt Locker is set to make a bang in Australia, going on wide release from this week.
The drama about a bomb-defusing army unit in Iraq will be on show at 71 cinema screens from Thursday - up from its initial art-house release of 46 screens.
Last year The Hurt Locker was headed for a straight-to-DVD release in Australia, but distributor Roadshow reconsidered as critical praise and Oscar buzz mounted.
