Blackcaps Around the world Volume One- IPL 2009 Auction
Former ICL player Shane Bond became the first person to join the IPL when he and James Franklin were signed to Bangalore for 750K and 650K respectively.
Blackcap performances in IPL 2009
Ross Taylor-Bangalore-892K

Ross Taylor was the most successful of the new Zealand Batsmen, playing in all 16 matches of the IPL. He scored 238 runs at 40, top scoring with 59* against Chennai to lead his team to victory from a bad position. He played poorly in the final, only scoring 12 off 12 balls.
Jesse Ryder-Bangalore-566K

Despite Jesse Ryder being valued at a high price, he didn?t play a single game of the IPL 2009. Considering Bangalore lost the final to Delhi, his batting and part time mediums would have helped Bangalore. But in the end, Ryder couldn?t find himself an overseas spot with Bond, Pieterson, Steyn and Taylor keeping them.
Shane Bond-Bangalore-750K

Shane Bond didn?t quite live up to his potential in this tournament, but still preformed well, taking 17 wickets at 30 from 16 matches. His best performance was against Mumbai, where he took 4/21 to take out a strong Mumbai order and lead Bangalore to victory.
James Franklin-Bangalore-650K

James Franklin had the misfortune of being behind Bond and Steyn in the overseas bowling Pecking order, but he made the most of the chances he had. He took 8 wickets at 11 in 3 matches, including a 5/21 and 3/30. People will argue that Franklin should have played ahead of a underperforming Bond, but Bond?s potential was enough to keep Franklin out of the side.
Jacob Oram-Chennai-265K

If Oram was in any other team, he would have played in the IPL 2009, sadly, he was stuck behind Andrew Flintoff, and despite Andrew Flintoff not playing well, he still kept Oram out of the side.
Daniel Vettori-Delhi-498K

Vettori didn?t get to play as much as we would have liked, but he still palyed in 9 matches, taking 7 wickets at 25. Vettori may not have taken a bag of wickets but his Economy rate of 5.2 was one of the best in the tournament.
Scott Styris-Deecan-593K

Styris was never high on the pecking order, and Deecans strong overseas bowling and Gilchrist was too much. Styris didn?t have a chance to play a game.
Brendon McCullum-Kolkata-688K

McCullum had a poor IPL 2009. In 6 innings, he only managed to score 62 runs, top scoring with 27*. His base price will be severely damaged, and he will need a good season if he wants the chance to play in IPL 2010.
Kyle Mills-Mumbai-355K

Kyle Mills was another Blackcap who couldn?t force his way into his IPL side, with Mumbais Bowling and Overseas attacks doing well enough to keep him out.

A young and fairly inexperienced NZ side will have to rely on its key players. Lead T20I wicket taker Daniel Vettori and lead T20I run scorer Brendon McCullum will be Key to New Zealand success. These two will be backed up well by experienced players like Mills, Oram, Ryder and Taylor, by ex ICL players Bond and Vincent, who haven?t played for New Zealand for awhile now. The new players are aiming for a strong performance to cement a place in this New Zealand outfit. Key people excluded are injured Jamie How and Jeetan Patel, as a second spinner wasn?t needed in English conditions.
OOC: Presentation doesn't quite look how I thought it would, but it's ok for now. Was going to do this on ICC but there isn't many Cricket coach stories going around.
