Blackcaps Around the world Volume One- IPL 2009 Auction

Former ICL player Shane Bond became the first person to join the IPL when he and James Franklin were signed to Bangalore for 750K and 650K respectively.

Blackcap performances in IPL 2009

Ross Taylor-Bangalore-892K

Ross Taylor was the most successful of the new Zealand Batsmen, playing in all 16 matches of the IPL. He scored 238 runs at 40, top scoring with 59* against Chennai to lead his team to victory from a bad position. He played poorly in the final, only scoring 12 off 12 balls.

Jesse Ryder-Bangalore-566K

104321.1.jpg

Despite Jesse Ryder being valued at a high price, he didn?t play a single game of the IPL 2009. Considering Bangalore lost the final to Delhi, his batting and part time mediums would have helped Bangalore. But in the end, Ryder couldn?t find himself an overseas spot with Bond, Pieterson, Steyn and Taylor keeping them.

Shane Bond-Bangalore-750K

66184.1.jpg

Shane Bond didn?t quite live up to his potential in this tournament, but still preformed well, taking 17 wickets at 30 from 16 matches. His best performance was against Mumbai, where he took 4/21 to take out a strong Mumbai order and lead Bangalore to victory.

James Franklin-Bangalore-650K

104312.1.jpg

James Franklin had the misfortune of being behind Bond and Steyn in the overseas bowling Pecking order, but he made the most of the chances he had. He took 8 wickets at 11 in 3 matches, including a 5/21 and 3/30. People will argue that Franklin should have played ahead of a underperforming Bond, but Bond?s potential was enough to keep Franklin out of the side.

Jacob Oram-Chennai-265K

104320.1.jpg

If Oram was in any other team, he would have played in the IPL 2009, sadly, he was stuck behind Andrew Flintoff, and despite Andrew Flintoff not playing well, he still kept Oram out of the side.

Daniel Vettori-Delhi-498K

104308.1.jpg

Vettori didn?t get to play as much as we would have liked, but he still palyed in 9 matches, taking 7 wickets at 25. Vettori may not have taken a bag of wickets but his Economy rate of 5.2 was one of the best in the tournament.

Scott Styris-Deecan-593K

104322.1.jpg

Styris was never high on the pecking order, and Deecans strong overseas bowling and Gilchrist was too much. Styris didn?t have a chance to play a game.

Brendon McCullum-Kolkata-688K

104314.1.jpg

McCullum had a poor IPL 2009. In 6 innings, he only managed to score 62 runs, top scoring with 27*. His base price will be severely damaged, and he will need a good season if he wants the chance to play in IPL 2010.

Kyle Mills-Mumbai-355K

Kyle Mills was another Blackcap who couldn?t force his way into his IPL side, with Mumbais Bowling and Overseas attacks doing well enough to keep him out.

A young and fairly inexperienced NZ side will have to rely on its key players. Lead T20I wicket taker Daniel Vettori and lead T20I run scorer Brendon McCullum will be Key to New Zealand success. These two will be backed up well by experienced players like Mills, Oram, Ryder and Taylor, by ex ICL players Bond and Vincent, who haven?t played for New Zealand for awhile now. The new players are aiming for a strong performance to cement a place in this New Zealand outfit. Key people excluded are injured Jamie How and Jeetan Patel, as a second spinner wasn?t needed in English conditions.

OOC: Presentation doesn't quite look how I thought it would, but it's ok for now. Was going to do this on ICC but there isn't many Cricket coach stories going around.

Good start mate, looking forward to it.
The real positive of Cricket Coach is that you can have the IPL and other domestic leagues.

Scotland innings

Scotland?s openers stroll out to the middle. Haq and Watts will have to survive to supply Scotland with a good base. Shane Bond has struck in his first Ball back in international cricket! A perfect inswinger yorked Watts. A perfect start for NZ

Watts b Bond 0(1) Scotland 0/1

Shane Bonds second ball went wide, but the next ball Bond was right back in the action! Another inswinger gifts a wicket to Bond, what a comeback! Watson is visibly disappointed with his dismissal and replays show the ball hit Bat and pad. Watson and Scotland unlucky

Watson lbw Bond 0(1) Scotland 1/2

Coetzer and Haq began to try rebuild the innings, taking five runs off the Bond over, until Shane Bond bowls a short ball to Haq, who mistimes a pull to Taylor, silly move for Haq, whose team already was in trouble.

Haq c Taylor b Bond 2(3) Scotland 6/3

The Scotland batsmen were happy to see the end of Bond for one over, and this was shown when the Scotland batsmen bashed 11 runs off Kyle Mills over, hitting the first two fours of the Scotland?s innings in the process. But it only took Bond two overs to strike once again. After his first ball was hit for four, he struck back with a full ball that Coetzer cut to Vincent at point.

Coetzer c Vincent b Bond 14(7) Scotland 21/4

Despite the early wickets, the Scotland batsmen continued to attack, resulting in Bond
and Mills both going for 10 run in their next overs. Mills poor showing resulting in Vettori giving Franklin the ball, and his left arm pacers where effective almost immediately, when Hamilton edged an outswinger to first slip, breaking a dangerous looking partnership and sticking another knife in Scotland back.

Hamilton c McCullum b Franklin 14(10) Scotland 46/5

The last remaining batsman, Smith comes out now, a lot of pressure on this two, they need to build a partnership to bring Scotland to a solid total. Unfortunately, this partnership only lasts one over, when Bond beats McCallum for pace and has him LBW off a dead straight ball. New Zealand now into the tail, which should be cleaned up quickly.

McCallum lbw Bond 20(14) Scotland 55/6

Smith has a big job now, he has to bat with the tail. But one again, Bond has proven to be too much for the Scotland batsmen, when Smith cuts the ball straight to Oram at gully. A dream comeback for Bond, and he ends his spell on 6/27.

Smith c Oram b Bond 2(4) Scotland 57/7

Now that the batsmen are out, the bowlers go into all out attack, and Wright hammers a four and a six off Franklin before being caught by Ryder at Mid on. Scotland looking to fall for a sub 100 total here.

Wright c Ryder b Franklin 11(8) Scotland 67/8

After that wicket, Vettori brings himself on with Franklin and the two hold down the runs, before Franklin breaks through Iqbal defenses with an inswinger, and has him trapped Lbw, giving Franklin his third wicket.

Iqbal lbw Franklin 1(4) Scotland 72/9
The last pair come in, and manage to put on 14 runs before Blain hits a pull straight to Broom at mid on.

Blain c Broom b Vettori 11(16) Scotland 68 all out

New Zealand Innings

With Scotland only setting a total of 86, New Zealand should have no trouble chasing this. Ryder began thrashing the Scotland bowlers, taking 14 off an over from Goudie, before McCullum was ran out just short of his ground, after Goudie produced an amazing piece of fielding off his own bowling to find McCullum short of his ground

McCullum run out (Goudie) 3(2)

Ryder and Taylor began where McCullum ended, basking fours and sixes all over the place, formi9ng a partnership of 62 runs in 7 overs, until another wicket fell to a run out, Coetzer firing a direct hit to find Taylor short of his ground. Scotland?s fielding has been perfect thus far.

Taylor Run out (Coetzer) 34(22)

With only 5 runs needed, it didn?t take long for Ryder to finish off the match with a 4 and get his 50

RESULT: NZ win by 8 wickets
