Hey this is a bit of alright!

For years id been longing for a bat against bowlers like Brett Lee, Shane Warne, Monty Panesar, Glenn Mcgrath and obviously Shaun Udal. Id been on the fringes of the Hampshire team for a while now and i just wanted a complete proformance, get some runs and then get some wickets. With a decent proformance against the Lancashire Acadamy i might have been able to crack into first team action, and with a fairly unlucky summer saw that a few injuries stopped Hants putting out a few first team'ers. Shaun Udal had unfortunatly gone down in training with a side strain and i was targeting his place.

The morning of the Acadamy match i was nervous, and with my shoulder strapped to prevent it spasming like it has been doing of late i feel ready. Lancashire win the toss and our Captain Tom Owen brought the team sheet and we were all suprised and fairly happy that All-Rounder Matthew Roberts (;)) was gone, that means he is playing for the first team, ahh well itll be a little easier now.

We were struggling going into the 43rd over, and i was summoned over, given the ball and told to make the scorecard read better, at the moment it was easier said, 230-1 isnt really somthing i enjoy bowling to. Anyways my first over goes for just a single, no real scares, i felt good.

I'd bowled 7 overs, and was coming on for my last over of the spell as i hadnt really done much, i was 3 balls into the over and i felt the ball slip out of my hand wrong, i just saw it gliding towards the batsmens heel, and amazingly my Doosra ball spun in more than usual and the batsmen was bowled through the gate, i was in heaven, im sure Shane Warne would have been proud of that one!

Anyways we win the match easily, won by an innings and 23 runs, i got 6 wickets in total and put on 102 runs in two innings, i was feeling good, but was it good enough for Hampshire to go with a youngster?

You're too late Simbazz, this story has already been made ;)

Matt, i thought you found you way into the Lancashire first team :D

really modest there Simbo :p
6 wickets and 102 runs my arse! :D

anyway nice start, hope you do well as a hampshire youngster(As i'm sure you will ;))

I was actually going to post mine the other week as I had it saved in notepad. Just forgot to post it.

Well me and culli started...
nah can't be bothered to go into that and make everyone hate me ;) :p
although i'm sure they already do!

anyway I honestly prefer career stories to team stories if they are done properley. So far the only exceptions I have seen are gamer's,suren's and MWaugh's stories!

I awoke on the morning of the Hampshire friendly to the newspaper dropping on my doormat, i really have to get a door for that hallway, every morning to paper boy wakes me up.

I grabbed hold of it, chucked it onto the table and headed for the kettle. Walking back through to the living room the newspaper had laid flat on the back page, and in a section next to how Cristiano Ronaldo has dived to win a match for Manchester United i saw the headline, "Hampshire ready to unlease the chinamen," Now i knew it had to do somthing with me, as there arnt too many English chinamen out there.

I read the full article and apperently some 70 year old ex-player was tipping me for a bright future, i threw the newspaper back down and turned on the TV to watch Sky News before i headed off to the match. 10 minutes before i was going to set off to the ground, i like to get there an hour early to see some of the lads from the acadamy i got a phone call from the coach, who told me to bring my stuff, im playing.

I ran upstairs and chucked my kit in my bag, ran out to the car, thinking "what have i forgotten?" surely enough i just sit in the car and then i remember, my bat, how could i forget that, so i rush back in and pick up the first one in sight, i have 3, so it was a guess to which i picked up. In the end it was the one i prefered, the Kookaburra genisis.

The traffic wasnt too bad yet, so i got the ground within 30 minutes to be met by Paul Terry and Bruce Reid, the two guys who had been watching me for a while now. They showed me to my place in the dressing room, im glad im no where near Shane Warne for my first game, im nervous as it is, so im just sat there in an empty room, looking at my name on the back of the Hampshire shirt.

One of my more favorite batsmen wear this number for England so it can only be a good sign!

There are not many English chinamen so thats good . Also how did u feel meeting Bruce Reid.

I got out into the nets and had Shaun Udal throwing a few down, he was injured so it was just a case of making sure i didnt miss anything.

I thought i would just replace Udal in the team, but Shane (Warne) had other ideas. He came to me and told me i was in at number one, i couldnt believe it, number one, but im a middle order batsmen, what you doing to me?

I was going up, first ball to the arguably best seamer in the last 20 years, how can i do this? I got myself ready, made dam sure i had my pads on correctly and made sure i was loose, i had a feeling i was going to be worked out.

It was time, i ran out to a Rose Bowl crowd, all had thier eyes on the "kid" out there, i was the new boy, and they expected me to proform, i dont know how against Pidge and Binga.

The differnce between English county teams and Australian State side was evidant when Lee got two wickets in his over and then Glenn got a wicket with his first ball of his 2nd over.

Well Glenn didnt stop at one wicket in his over, he couldnt possibly let a youngster stay around for more then 3 overs. He got me, edging to Haddin for 9, i was devistated, the Rose Bowl crowd sighed, they wanted me to do it, but the swing, seam and pace beat me and i edged it.

In the end, our batsmen were not even close to being good enough, and we were bundled out cheaply. I tell myself im more of a bowler who can bat, so this is were ill hopefully find some rythem, if i do, im sure i can take at least 1 wicket, maybe Mcgrath?
