First Game Nottinghamshire vs Yorkshire Report
After winning the toss Nottinghamshire decided to bat first in great batting conditions.
Hoping for a great start to the match Gallian and Fleming opened the scoring. Scoring well at 37-0 Kruis got an LBW appeal on Gallian which the Umpire raised his finger to. OUT!!! Gallian out for 22. Hoping to imporve the score Hussey ( the best) cam in at number 3 hoping to get his season off on a high note. The partnership didn't even make it to 50 and at 47-1 White delivered a blow to Fleming ending his match with 17 runs. Cairns came in next but Nottinghamshire needed someone to take the innings by its throat. This partnership also didn't last long and was ended on 60-2 when Bresnan bolwed out a not very well intended shot by Cairns. 60-3. Ealham in next with the worst score in the match. 64-3 and Ealham was C&B by Bresnan. Radley the youth player bought a few weeks ago came in to make his 1st game. The partnership held and found its way to 100-4. The partnership was immense and eventually got to 150-4. It would only survive a few more overs when Rardley would be balled by Kruis and caught by Lehmahn ended his run tally with a respectable 50 to his name ( exactly 50) 168-5.
The lower order with the help of Hussey would eventually end off the innings with an remarkable score considering the bad start by the openers. Singh would be balled for 0 then Read would be out for an LBW appeal on 39. But beore Read was to go out a tragedy happened for Nottinghamshire( not an injury, phew) Hussey(75), Swan(5)and Smith(8)going in quick sucsession. Leaving a not out score of 4 for Sidebottom. The innings ended on 235 all out.
With not a big total to chase Yorkshire were happy and thought they could win. They would eventually be balled for 243 with Swann getting half the wickets. Lehmahn getting 94.
With Nottinghamshire 8 runs behind they were quite happy with their bowling figures and looked for a win. A remarkable 80 by Singh and Gallian with 73 lead the team to a total of 225 all out.
With 217 runs to get in over a day Yorkshire would be favourites to win. There would be a twist and with a good start by Lumb reaching his 50 but then going OUT things deteriated and they were reduced to a score of 175 all out!!!!! 3 wickets by swann mainly caused the batters problems but the bad batting performance left Nottinghamshire to win by 42 runs. Swann man of the match.
