Steve Harmison

Known for his exploits in the 2005 Ashes Steve Harmison was equally threatening with the white ball. A tall right hand fast bowler with high arm action looking to have a go at those timid batsman, Harmison made his reputation as quite a hostile bowler. He did have some good performances to make his name among the bowlers who played for England in the limited overs format. His strengths with the ball were to move the ball both ways and the use of bouncers. He did have some days where he got some stick by the batsman but that is always the thing when you are bowling consistently at 145+ kph clicks. He had taken 76 wickets in 58 ODIs at an average of 32.64 and a slightly higher economy rate of 5.13. In List-A matches he took 184 wickets in 143 matches.

I was originally going to vote for my own team, but then thought that might be a bit of a dick move because I obviously have picked the players to make the kind of side I would rate most highly. Instead, I have changed my vote to @Rebel2k19 because I feel like he has the most balanced team of anyone. Root, Taylor, Gower and Stokes is not a devastatingly powerful middle-order, but it is a busy one that will play at a pretty high tempo. Then you look down at a bowling attack with Woakes, Jimmy and Underwood and it becomes apparent that scores of 250 might be enough.

I feel like each of the other teams carries a slight weakness - @Sinister One has a slow middle order of Trott, Broad and Fletcher; @NilayShah60 is definitely a bowler short with Mascarenhas almost certainly needing to deliver ten overs, and also chose not to pick a proper keeper; @CerealKiller doesn't really have any power-hitters until Jos Buttler at number six; @blockerdave has chosen to pick a bowling attack without any real outright pace, although that does mean an entire innings of Jack Russell standing up to the stumps.

But that's just my analysis of the teams; others are of course perfectly entitled to disagree!

Absolutely agree. My picks were influenced upon what players others had picked and what I was left with at the later stages. I feel when it comes to batting I have picked the most balanced side. The bowlers are X-factor bowlers who just could bowl well on their day but can equally give runs when not in song. The reason why I picked Fowler is very predictable. I couldn't have taken a keeper who was short on his batting skills and others had already picked those players who I was looking at (Jos Buttler, Alec Stewart & Bairstow) and I did feel like taking Geraint Jones but he was widely regarded as a Test batsman and hadn't done anything worthy to be picked in ODI XI but definitely would've been first pick of many who would've looked at a Test XI. And my lack of knowledge about 90s Cricket also didn't help the cause. I feel like the current batting line-up of England and with bowlers like Anderson at his prime, Darren Gough, Andy Caddick, Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar would've been a side to beat in World Cricket.
