Ok, I know this has been debated about a hundred times already, but who doesn't like an all-time XI? Here's mine. I'll try to explain my selections with one or two short sentences. You can give your thoughts on my XI and post yours.
Sir Jack Hobbs
5000+ runs at 57, on bowler friendly pitches.
Sunil Gavaskar
The first to cross the 10000 mark. Had a particular liking to the Windies' pace attack.
Sir Don Bradman
No explanation needed.
Sachin Tendulkar
Highest run scorer ever. Scored big wherever he went. Holds a plethora of runs-scoring records.
Brian Lara
Played some of the greatest innings ever. His performances in the 1999 series against Australia are stuff of legend. No one was better to watch than the Prince of Trinidad at his best.
Sir Gary Sobers
A batting average of 57, combined with an ability to bowl seam and spin, made Sobers the greatest all rounder of all time.
Adam Gilchrist
Revolutionised the role of the wicketkeeper.
Wasim Akram
Could've made the ball sing and dance if he had wanted to. Could give the bat a mighty swing as well.
Malcolm Marshall
The greatest of the pacers West Indies was blessed with in the 80s and 90s. Took a wicket every 20 runs.
Shane Warne
The greatest spinner ever. No one turned it as well and as far as him.
Glenn McGrath
The most successful pacer of all time. The master of line and length.
