Should England consider leaving Andrew Flintoff behind?

Well he was playing IPL instead of for Lancs, so if he would have been injured playing for Lancs anyway.

ok Skater, you win. I shall hang my head in shame after this pwnage. :hpraise

This kind of opinion surprises me really along with all the other 'Freddie should give up Tests'. Why? Because he misses 4 out of 6? That still means he plays in the other 2.

So he misses a lot of Tests, but what is the downside of having him play as many matches as he's fit to play? I can't see any. How many times has he broken down in a match and left the team hanging? Even if he were to be injured in the match, he's the allrounder - the most useful but LEAST VITAL player in the team. If he goes down there are 6 other better batsmen and 4 other specialist bowlers to cover for it. I've argued the same with Aussie fans who say we should give up on Shane Watson. WHY?? When he is fit, he is good.

The downside is it keeps messing up the balance of the side. One game Prior is batting at 7 with the tail to follow, the next he is batting at 6 with Freddie to follow. One day Strauss has to turn to Anderson and Broad for agression, next day he has Flintoff and has to use those two to contain. One day KP and Prior are the most aggressive stroke makers in the side, the next day they have Freddie there as well. One day you have Freddie at slip, the next day you don't.

If the team is playing well and gelling together, then breaking that up just to fit Freddie in will throw off the balance. And it isn't worth it.

Freddie is making an announcement today at 11am. Its expected he will announce bowling retirement at least from test cricket either immediately or after this series.

Flintoff to quit Test cricket?

Just watching Sky Sports News this morning, there seems to be a lot of expectation going around that Flintoff is going to quit Test cricket after the 2nd Test @ Lord's.

Flintoff is to give a press conference on his future later today (perhaps within an hour).

How will this affect England's preparation for tomorrow, and in the future?

LOL! So i was right, KP. :p

He can't be serious, he can't retire from bowling and expect to be picked in Tests.

I've heard it's after the current series not just the second Test. If that's the case the lads definitely have to win the Ashes for him.

Damn.........

:banana2:banana2:banana2:banana2

EDIT: DAMMIT, i read its after the ashes:(

Its dunno, not dunnow. FFS.

They haven't jumped the gun, they are just speculating, its not like they are announcing it.
