Keeping exactly is not my cup of tea but these days I do keep for my team. The position where you stand depends upon the following
1. The bounce and pace the bowler is getting from the pitch. This varies from bowler to bowler.
2. Your reflexes
3. The reach of your hands
4. The extent you could dive
5. The sting you could take in your hands
i normally aim for about the top of the bounce or as close as for a normal deliver (good length) i keep low as long as possible for as long as possible.
for a bouncer my bowler would normally give me a signal, so i knew it was coming. normally you can still take it above head height shouldn't need to jump or anything.
