These days the Australian slips cordon is terrible, especially compared to previous cordons. You had Taylor, the Waugh brothers, Hayden, Warne etc. Now we have Clarke in first slip, Ponting in second (who is good) and whoever in third when we use it (didn't pay much attention during this test).

How good was it when we had an off side field of

Slips - Hayden, Ponting, Warne
Gully - Hussey
Point - Clarke
Covers - Symonds

Now the Australian side isn't as good in the fielding aspect of the game, as well as batting and bowling, compared to previous years.

Warne was always #1.

and its not that bad right now. Clarke can catch

Clarke doesn't put many down at slips, he's a safe pair of hands. He doesn't put more down then any other slips fielder across the world.

Hmm. It's probably that I'd rather see him in the point to cover areas so that his poor performances in the slips cordon stick out in my mind.

Get Warne out of retirement, i say. :p
But hey, Pup isnt that bad in the slips though.

He is better there but Hughesy aint bad there either. Plus it's easier for Clarke and Ponting to discuss tactics which they are doing most of the time when they are at 1st and 2nd slip.

Nothing wrong with the cordon. Clarke is a magnificent fielder...Much more reliable at slip then Warne who seemed to drop easy ones ala Peitersen Ashes 2005. Ponting at second is second to no one and whoever at third, Hughes I think is there lately? Katich in close does his job well.

Hussey in the cover/gully region and I don't see a lot wrong there. Especially as North is a good fielder as well

Stop your moaning. Australia's fielding is still world class.

Hussey is a great fielder, first catch of the Ashes series proves that and that isn't the first time he has done something like that.

Hussey is great at Gully, IIRC during the Eng NZ series at one point monty was in the slips!

Hussey has already taken 2 screaming catches, one during the tour match and one in the 1st Test. The slip cordon isn't as strong but its hard to find another Waugh, Taylor, Warne.

I just remembered, didnt Phil Hughes go to the slips a little bit during the first Ashes test? Not sure could be wrong.
