Bangladesh Coaching Shock

BCB_Logo.png

It has been unveiled today, Friday March 31st 2006, that Bangladesh have sacked Dav Whatmore and they have appointed another coach on the same day. The new coach has not been confirmed yet but Bangladesh have said that the new coach will be announced tomorow, a week ahead of their tour with Australia.

Dav Whatemore took over in 2003 when Bangladesh had not won a match for 4 years, but Dav's optimism and love for the game soon spreaded around the team. Despite losing and losing for a while, Whatmore soon recorded their win in Chittagong against Zimbabwe. He beat India, Australia and won a Test Series and an ODI series against Zimbabwe. He improved the fortunes of the Bangladesh cricket team by a marging and in the 3 years in charge he took them from strength to strength, believing in his team, every step of the way.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board have said "We are glad that Whatmore took over in 2003 and stayed as coach for 3 years. He has brought some success to the team and has brought us on a long way. We feel he has done all he can in the three years and would like to thank him for his service." then added "It is the time to go for him, on a high after winning us two series."

When questioned about the new coach of Bangladesh they responded positively. "We have appointed a ex-International who we think is perfect for the role. He is a legend in many minds and played over 50 tests for his country. He holds many records and ironically, would be the best man from his country to lead us to victory against Australia, let alone other countries."

Speculation has been flying everywhere. Sir Ian Botham, Jonty Rhodes and Saeed Anwar are all ex-Internationals who have been seen in Bangladesh in recent weeks, although there are many others who have been speculated to be interested in the job. The bookies favourite is Jonty Rhodes but we will all find out tomorow, who the new coach is.

Whatmore was agreat coach but surely Bangladesh is not good for him. Hmm I think there might be a surprised new coach here. Johnty will be great but Ian Botham I feel is the right man. Lets see what happens in future.

Great start Jaz KUTGW :clap

Whatmore had done a lot for the team but the team didn't perform as per the expectation. I think Botham would be a right choice of coach with Jonty as fielding and Anwar as batting coach. Nice start there Jaz. Looking forward to it.

After yesterday's bombshell sacking off Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore, today they have reported who they have signed in his place. Dav Whatmore did much good work for Bangladesh and was only sacked due to the Selectors and Board not thinking he could take them any further. So who do they think will take them further?

Sir Ian Botham has been appointed coach of Bangladesh as of yesterday afternoon. The ex English all rounder and two time Walter Lawrence Trophy winner was reported seen in Bangladesh in the past few weeks and the speculation was correct that he was there for the job. The 6 foot giant who represented his country on no less than 218 times was said to be delighted at the thought of coaching Bangladesh.

"It's been a dream of mine to coach a team, let a lone a country. Myself and my family are going to be moving out to Bangladesh during this week, although I'll be setting off to Australia mid-week. My wife is looking forward to moving to a foreign country although I'm worried about her being 'eye candy' for the lads. I mean she catches the eyes straight away, mainly because of her DD's but we won't mention that(laughs)."

Sir Ian Botham's spirit seems high in the interview he gave and if he can spread that around like Whatmore did then he should have no problem getting them to perform. If he can't spread his spirit around to raise the spirit, he could simply spread his wife around and I'm sure the spirit will be raised then...

His first tour will be that of Australia where he is set to play the best team in the world. Not a bad way to start your Coaching career and no doubt the Bangladeshi players will be looking to try and impress their new coach. News on the fixtures for the tour coming soon.

Great to see Beefy in charge of Bangladesh. Will be a huge task as his first management job, but if anyone can help them he can. Look forward to seeing some exciting selections from Beefy.

I hope now Bangladesh can win some matches or play better than they used to play and btw Jaz nice update KUTGW!!

Can we have allot and lloyd as the coaches? and then tuffers as a spin/fielding coach? Thats a mouthwatering coaching set up then! Can't imagine them being sober or awak any of the time!

With them as coaches, that would involve the players as well! :p

Cheers for all the comments guys, might try and add some humour in here and there like with Botham's wife being mentioned in the interview. ;)

Like I said, cheers.

Beef up the story and make it long. Looking forward to it.

Yeah great to see Beefy being the next coach. He was always the right choice and lets hope he does wonders with Bangladesh.

Great update Jaz :clap

Bangladesh Season Fixtures Announced

Today the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced their fixtures for the 2006/2007 season and it is jam packed with some thrilling encounters. Sir Ian Botham will have to get used to the players in a very short space of time as he has got to face some formidable opponents. He has been luck in one aspect though and that is that he is at home in three of the four tours. India, England and Australia at home are definitely going to be a challenge for the England legend. It's going to be a tough first season for the newly appointed coach, for sure.

Australia In Bangladesh

9 April 2006 - 1st Test Match
16 April 2006 - 2nd Test Match
23rd April 2006 - 1st One Day International
26th April 2006 - 2nd One Day International
28th April 2006 - 3rd One Day International

The first tour for Sir Ian Botham will be at home against the World Cup Champions and the team that tops both of the World Rankings, Australia. They are the best team around at the moment and are in impeccable form. Bangladesh have the momentum of all the players wanting to do well for the new manager but will that be enough to defeat the current World super power?

India In Bangladesh

30th September 2006 - Three Day Friendly, Chittagong v India
6th October 2006 - 1st Test Match
13th October 2006 - 2nd Test Match
19th October 2006 - 1st One Day International
21st October 2006 - 2nd One Day International
23rd October 2006 - 3rd One Day International

Sir Ian Botham's second tour will be against the best up and coming team, India. Despite being 6th in both of the World Rankings, India are considered by many to be one of the best National teams in the world. They boast quality such as Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble. Saying that, Bangladesh have the home advantage and will no doubt use spin to their advantage. The only problem with that is that India have a remarkable spin attack so that could be a stumbling block. This will be a very tough tour.

England In Bangladesh

7th February 2007 - Three Day Friendly, Chittagong v England
13th February 2007 - 1st Test Match
20th February 2007 - 2nd Test Match
26th February 2007 - 1st One Day International
28th February 2007 - 2nd One Day International
2nd March 2007 - 3rd One Day International

In his first season as Coach, Sir Ian Botham will have to face his home nation. After facing two of the worlds best Countries in India and Australia, Bangladesh will then have to face another quality nation. Sir Ian Botham should know all about England, having lived and played there, but there will be an element of surprise as there normally is with England. It will be an emotional tour for Bangladesh's new coach and one that he will have to face head on.

BanglavNewZealand.jpg

Bangladesh In New Zealand

7th March 2007 - Three Day Friendly, Wellington v Bangladesh
12th March 2007 - 1st Test Match
19th March 2007 - 2nd Test Match
26th March 2007 - 1st One Day International
28th March 2007 - 2nd One Day International
30th March 2007 - 3rd One Day International

Bangladesh end their season with their only away tour of the year. New Zealand are surprisingly high in both of the World Rankings as their quality has decline in recent years. They are the easiest test for Sir Ian Botham this season and despite it being away in New Zealand, they will be expected to maybe win a match or two. New Zealand have a team full of experience and youth that work well together and usually perform higher than expectations.
