Home V India - ODI Series

Ok then, here goes my first ODI series of 06/07 - I shall be hoping to go up to 8th in the rankings (above England) very soon!

My Aims (series):

+To win the series 2-1
+To score 250+

The Matches:

1st ODI at Dhaka:

Bangladesh win the toss and choose to bat first.

Bangladesh: Arif Ahemd+, Iqbal, Bashar*, Aftab Ahmed, Saleh, M Islam, Nuruzzaman, Hasan, Rafique, A Islam, Haque(Debut).

India: Sehwag*, Gambhir, Tendulkar, Kambli, Laxman, Dharmani+, H Singh, Kumble, G Singh, Salvi, Mohanty.

Bangladesh Innings: 227-7
M Islam 60*; Iqbal 44; Mohanty 3-41; Kumble 2-49.

India require 228 to win.

India Innings: 229-4
Kambli 94*; Laxman 51; Haque 2-38; Rafique 1-45

INDIA (229-4) beat BANGLADESH (227-7) by 6 wickets.
Man Of The Match: Kambli

All in all, it was a very close game - could have gone either way!

2nd ODI at Chittagong:

Bangladesh win the toss and choose to bat first - again.

Both lineups remain unchanged.

Bangladesh Innings: 215 all out
Aftab Ahmed 59; Hasan 39*; G Singh 3-22; H Singh 3-43.

India require 216 to win.

India Innings: 216-7
Dharmani 89; Gambhir 43; Rafique 2-41; A Isalm 1-23.

INDIA (216-7) beat BANGLADESH (215) by 3 wickets.
Man Of The Match: Dharmani

Once again, another loss, and the loss of the series. However, once again, another close game and we have improved since the beginnings. I hope to take a consolation win to bring the series to 2-1 not 3-0.

3rd ODI at Dhaka:

India win the toss and choose to field.

Bangladesh remain unchanged.

India: Balaji comes in for Mohanty.

Bangladesh Innings: 209 all out
Arif Ahmed 70; Bashar 55; G Singh 5-37; Kumble 2-40.

India require 210 to win.

India Innings: 190 all out
Gambhir 47; Sehwag 42; Haque 3-46; M Islam 2-24.

BANGLADESH (209) beat INDIA (190) by 19 runs.
Man Of The Match: G Singh

YES! What a brilliant way to end a lost series. I am delighted that we pulled the series back to only a 2-1 loss and am very confident of victory against the out of form England team when they tour here in Feb 2007.

My Aims Revisited:

+Win the series 2-1.

Unfortunately, luck was against us so we lost the first two ODIs - just! If luck was with us then it was possible that we could've won the series 3-0! Now that would've been amazing!

+Score 250+

Another aim that wasn't successfully met. However, this doesn't bother me much as the pitches really didn't suit the batsmen - possibly we can get this sort of score away, but the home pitches really do suit bowlers!

Overall, a series loss is not what I wanted. But I am by no means upset - bring on the English!

Great story, great win in the tests and unlucky in the ODI's. By the way in the 3rd ODI you've put "England have won the toss and chosen to field"

Test Series V England

Home V England: 2 Tests & 3 ODIs.

Test Series:

Bangladesh Squad:

Iqbal, Bashar, Aftab Ahmed, Saleh, Nurruzaman, Arif Ahemd+, M Islam, Rafique, Hasan, A Islam, Haque, Aziz.

After a thoroughly tedious meeting with the BCB, we came to the overall agreement that Tareq Aziz was to be reincluded into the squad after his ban for throwing a cricket ball at a dog's face.

1st Test at Dhaka:

My Aims:

+Win the test
+Get a first innings lead

Welcome to Dhaka, where the recently successful Bangladesh will be looking to heap further misery on England's dreadful season so far...

England won the toss and chose to bat first:

LINEUPS:

Bangladesh: No changes from last test v India, apart from Tareq Aziz replacing Rafique.

England: Strauss; Trescothick; Pietersen; Troughton; Flintoff; Vaughan; G Jones+; S Jones; Davies; Harmison; Hoggard.

THE MATCH:

England First Innings: 301 all out
Troughton 105; Trescothick 59; Hasan 3-42; M Islam 2-59.

Bangladesh First Innings: 587-7 declared

Bangladesh lead by 286 runs.

England Second Innings: 172 all out
Pietersen 44; G Jones 28*; Hasan 4-52; A Islam 3-32.

BANGLADESH (587-7) beat ENGLAND (301 & 172) by an innings and 114 runs.
Man Of The Match: Saleh

What an emphatic win to start the series - a great big thumping victory. That cheers me up after the loss to India in the ODIs two months ago. Another innings victory over England just shows how far my team has developed - hopefully this time, we can hold on for the series victory.

My Aims Revisited:

+Win the test

Well, we pretty obviosuly met this aim! Not only a win, but a massive win to start off this series - just 2 months before the World Cup!

+Get a first innings lead

Seeing as we only batted once, it is pretty obvious that we has a first innings lead - and what a great batting performance it was. Hats off to Bashar and Saleh!

Overall, a great win and a real confidence booster ahead of the World Cup later this year.

(Second Test to be posted later)

No changes for either Bangladesh or England.

Trescothick 47; Pietersen 27; M Islam 7-31; Aziz 2-31.

BANGLADESH (497) beat ENGLAND (323 & 141) by an innings and 33 runs.
Man Of The Match: Aftab Ahmed

Well, what a great way to close out a series with another thrashing of the now dire English team. Hopefully, we can repeat this great victory in the ODIs and future series this season.

My Aims Revisited:

+Hold on for series win.

We didn't just hold on for the series win!

+Win the test.

Once again, the gap is closing between us and the top ranked teams as we have shown over the past year - this match is just further evidence towards that!

Another great win and a great series win 2-0! Hopefully this will continue in the ODI series. My men of the series are: Rajin Saleh (203 & 61) and Hasan (3-42, 4-52, 4-71). Also, mention must go to Aftab Ahmed (190) and M Islam (7-31)!

Bring on the ODIs...

Great win against England sorry you couldn't win India.

A great victory and my best bowling figures in ODIs ever, with Hasan's match winning, brilliant 6-20! Series 1-0 to us!

2nd ODI at Chittagong:

England win the toss and choose to bat.

Both teams remain unchanged.

England Innings: 191 all out
Trescothick 41; Troughton 37; Hasan 4-39; Khan 2-32.

Man Of The Match: M Islam

Another contribution from another spinner brought another Bangladesh victory. This will move us up ahead of the English in the rankings and onto glory. Series is taken 3-0!

My Aims Revisited:

+Win series 2-1.

We did better than this, we clean sweeped the English with an emphatic 3-0 victory over the visitors.

+Score 250+.

Still, though, there remains a barrier which we have not crossed. I would like to score 250 in New Zealand (before the WC) if possible. Otherwise we could find that all this work has been for nothing when it comes to the World Cup!

Overall, another great series win and another man of the series award to Ahnsullah Hasan (6-20 & 4-39). Two of his bowling contributions won us matches and we are greatful to him. For this reason, we have decided to award him $BD1000. Next up...New Zealand!

Great performance there. Keep it up against New Zealand.

Fantastic, good luck in NZ, but can't wait to see how you do in the World Cup. Keep it up.
