No surprises in the squad named for the 5 test matches , Simon Jones(inj) and Marcus Trescothick(personal reasons) are the only main absentes .
Now there is a battle for keeping wicket and the spinner role and who will miss out with captain Vaughan back .

Australia vs England 1st Test - Brisbane

Day 1

Hayden & Ponting make exellent start in the ashes

Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting showed from day 1 that Australia meant buisness in this series , Australia going in at stumps on 319-2 ,Australia won the toss and decided to have a bat , Langer and Hayden making a solid but cautious start , Langer was the first ashes wicket when he gave the faintest of edges through to Read off Anderson for 36 but then the fireworks began as Ponting raced past Hayden`s score ,the two batsmen both getting 50 before lunch , things never got better after lunch for the tourists as Ponting and Hayden despatched the England bowling all over the ground and both reached their tons within an over of each other , Hayden getting his off 203 balls with 11 fours and a six , Ponting was quicker smashing his ton off 161 balls with 15 fours , England finally broke the partnership late on in the day when Ponting was expertly caught behind by Read off Flintoff for 124 , Hayden will resume tomorrow on 133 , he is joined by Hussey who is on 3 .

Australia vs England 1st Test match - Brisbane

Day 2

Australia move into a strong position after Clark double

Australia dealt England a heavy blow in the last session of the day , this was after England had fought their way back into this test match , starting the day on 331-2 Hayden who was on 133 only made 17 runs to his overnight tally before Hoggard made a mess of his off stump on 150 , Hussey quickly followed bowled by Flintoff and then Michael Clarke got into trouble from a James Anderson delivery and ended up spooning the ball back to Anderson for 3 , England had their tails up but Gilchrist and Watson soon got the momentum going again with an exellent partnership ,when they went Australia played along till tea where they declared on 506-8 .
England now had the last session to bat and Australia got stuck right into them from the off Cook dropped by Hayden off McGrath 4th ball of the 1st over but they didn`t have to wait long Cook edged again off Lee with Gilchrist taking the catch ,this sent Micheal Vaughan in who imediatly went after the bowling but fell fowl to a Warne delivery that stayed low , England then sent in nightwatch man Ashley Giles to see off the last 4 overs he in fact didnt see out an over when Stuart Clark took his off stump out of the ground , next ball he did the exact same to Strauss ,this left Bell and Pietersen to see off a hungry aussie attack for 3 overs which they did , going in at 60-4.
