Day One India 343/8

Sydney,5 Jan:
India's tour of Australia ,sydney test ,day one depicted the new sehwag taking on a vey young australian side. India won the toss and undoubtedly decided to bat first on a wicket that was dry. India had anil kumble and harbhajan as two spinners whereas australia brought d.cullen to thier side in place of shane warne. The day started with brett lee and s.clarke as opening bowlers . Brett lee was lookin fiery and pacy right from the start and got the initial breakthrough of stubborn wasim jaffer clean bowled , beaten by pace of a yorker. V.V.S Laxman walked in at No.3 maybe for his australain favour. Sehwag looked soild and played all trademark shot before edging one to a quick offie by Cullen just befor lunch. Laxman and tendulkar then took India past lunch, both looking good. Laxman finally gave away a simple catch to first slip off Stuart clarke. Dravid chopped a ball on to his stumps leaving india gasping at 168\4. In came Ganguly and in tandem with Tendulkar took India to tea at 229\4. Tendulkar and Ganguly then opened up and played positive cricket all round. Tendulkar notching up his 36th century looked the Master as he is playing all the strokes in the cricket library wheras ganguly on the other hand made a pulsating impact with a gritty innings . The dream partnership ended for India as they collapsed from 305\4 to 343\8. Tendulkar out on 105 whereas Ganguly missed a century by 7 Runs. For Australia M.Clarke and D.Cullen got 3\65 and 2\62 respectively.
Day two will see whether India's tail can give some unlikely resistance and add some valuable runs as well as Australian Seconed innings.

Day 2 Ind 363 Aus 222\9

The Handsome Times
Sydney , Jan 6:
Australia's first Series after the retirement of three stalwarts meant some serious
pressure and opportunities coming in together. Day two of the first test portrayed exactly that
with the final session ending with Australia on 222\9, 141 runs behind India.
Resuming on an overnight score of 343\8, Indian innings was bundeled out for 363. Hayden
came out to open with Simon Katich looking to rebulid the same fear and class of Langer-Hayden partnership. A heap of expectations demand a performance which will be compared with the retired legends as Australia start thier first innings.
Australia start to thier worst possible start with zaheer dismissing Hayden caught behind , Australia 4\1. Zaheer's consistency around off stmp was again rewarded by the wicket of Katich leaving Australia at 21\2. Hussey came in and started with confidence dispatching zaheer for a boundary. Pointing who was looking a bit nervous bowed down to Anil Kumble. India had started off well with top three batsmen in the pavilion , they would have at this stage liked to get another wicket or two before lunch . On the other hand Australians stayed carefull and waited for loose deliveries .
Post Lunch Hussey- Clarke partnership looked to steady the ship for Aussies. Both looked comfortable agaist kumble at one end and sreesanth at the other. Harbhajan came in and with the first delivery got hussey out for 31 with a doosra, hussey looking to sweep and kumble taking a easy catch to complete the dismissal. A very positive Hodge waled in and suddenly the tables changed when both Clarke and Hodge started playing positive cricket .
Both got set and then started milking the Indian bowlers with ease. They played spin and pace both alike with sping getting more treatment by clarke who also got his first century agaist India in India . They put on 126 for the 5th wicket before Harbhajan dismissed clarke for 92. Anil Kumble then bowling from the other end in the vey next over got Hodge bowled leaving the tail exposed. Anil Kumble got two more wickets in the same over dismissing Cullen and Bracken and Lee in the next over to reduce the hosts to a paltry 222\9 at the end of play.
Aussies still trail the Indians by 141 runs and would like Gilchrist to score a few runs to minimise it and then bowl out India quickly in the seconed Innings. India on the other hand will love to take the last wicket quicly and then play themselves into a strong position tommorow.
