I've decided this bug since it is quite a big bug deserves its own thread. The following are the problems that I encounter.

Here are the traits I've found.

* Only occurs when you save the game. If you save the game and resume after selecting a different lineup to what the computer thinks you should select you get stuck with what the computer wants you to use. However if the computer selects a different lineup they can keep there own one.

* The default lineup is entirely dependent on the pitch you are playing on. For example, I played a game against Pakistan in NZ on a normal & hard pitch, the lineup the computer chose was as follows:
Sinclair, Richardson, Fleming, Astle, McMillan, Cairns, Hart, Styris, Vettori, Tuffey & Bond.
When I played against Bangladesh on a dusty wicket the computer selected the following lineup:
Sinclair, Richardson, Fleming, Astle, McMillan, Cairns, Hart, Vettori, Tuffey, Bond & Wiseman.

* Opening my roster.pak file in a hex editor here is the following dump of Paul Wiseman:

The data is exactly the same. So unfortunatly the location of the default batting lineups dependent on the pitch must be hidden elsewhere...

* Where is the default lineup kept after you start a game and save it? Well this data seems to be appended to the end of the save game file. I'm not sure on the exact details of whether this keeps the data on what you select as your preferred lineup, and if that is different whether it just resides in memory and once you start your game again then you get given what the computer chooses.

This is getting more and more interesting, however I'm off to watch NZ get beaten by the Paki's so I will look into it later today possibly.

interesting

thats a good thing meaning whe shall be playing against more than just one cpu lineup which is good considering that lineup wont change

but makes it harder to edit

though i have played lots of ODIs as australia on different pitches and the default lneup is always:

gilchris, hayden, ponting, martyn, lehmann, bevan, symonds, hogg, lee, gillespie, mcgrath

never changed

try touring through the sub continent you may see a different lineup

It was the same in c2k2. I think there were 3 default line-ups; one for damp/green, one for normal/hard and one for dry/dusty. The line up bug in that was exactly the same in that it would change back to the default line up depending on what pitch you played on. It wasn't until the player line-up editors were made that this problem was solved.
It seems unbelievable that EA/HB have released c2k4 with exactly the same bug.

I don't have a clue what all that tech talk means...

Happened to be too. Playing with West Indies on a Hard Guyana pitch. Chose my squad, batted 18 overs saved it and exitted the game came back an hour later to find that while I was batting I still had my chosen squads but whenever I went to change the batting order during my innings, it showed the default squads.

When I declared, and went to bowl I was now completely trapped with the default squads.........

yes the lineup will stay the same except when u view some stats but then when u go to bowl it will completly change

Yep - currently having to play a world cup with England just using my default team - I am presuming I will only be able to change team if someone gets injured ?

Also. its worth noting that after reloading a saved game, any players you chose not in the default line up when bowling can only use the normal 1 field in ODI's - so frustrating

Got the same problem in Tests Phil. Chose Harmison instead of Caddick and after saving and reloading the game I can only chose 1 field setting for Harmison. Grrr...

Do what I suggested and completely change your default lineup.

This won't work when on tour or playing world cups etc though will it as you pick your squad at the start of that particular event chosen ?

Unfortunately not.
