Sachin Tendulkar. He even scored 123 vs Pakistan in March this year with TENNIS ELBOW!

Hardly a big injury.

bert Trautman played a football match with a broken neck!

Yes, Ponting is a nervy and uncertain starter, but he usually goes on for a while after a good start and is certainly good to watch.

I can't imagine Dravid as a good ODI batsman, simply because of what I remember of the World Cup final, it was as if he came in to save face rather than to win. 4 an over is all very well and good until you're chasing 300+.
Dravid, not even good, you must be crazy

you know this topic is about current, not 2 years earlier

this year, dravid has got 400 in last 8 ODIs averaging well over 50

last year,
against pak in chtrpy match, only player to get 67
played well vs lanka in the first odi of asia cup
in vb series, played a superfast knock vs australia to get us 300+ and win us the match
in pakistan series, played very well, got quickfire 99 vs pak

in 2003,
got a 22 ball (india's 2nd fastest) 50 vs NZ

and YOU just take 1 match into account

odi is not all about closed eyes hitting, but dravid is consistent

dravid averages 40+ anyway

Yes. He may be slow, but check out his strike rate in the slog overs...
There is more than one way to skin a cat. You can get fours without slamming a bowler outta the park. Each and every team has a Dravid(Martyn, Youhana, Attapatu, etc.) but Dravid is the best of the lot.

You know what, if you're not even going to read what I wrote, don't bother. I said nothing about slogging, in fact I didn't say I thought Dravid was a bad batsman. I said I couldn't imagine him playing well in an ODI. I said I saw that match, a much more important match than any matches since and I wasn't impressed by his lack of aggression. It was a situation where you need to just do what you have to do, even if it's reckless (in this case it was score an lot of runs quickly).

ODIs aren't all about average either. Martyn and Youhana have higher averages and higher scoring rates but that's not what makes them great batsmen.

What do you guys think of Mohammad Ashraful (Bangledeshi) as a ODI batsman?

Gilly although he struggles against Flintoff :D

Gayle, Pietersen, Hayden, Dravid, Inzy. Last not for running :D
Inzi has been running a lot faster since Woolmer worked on him. He lost his thigh pad and 30 pounds. He was running just as fast as Malik in the recent Pepsi Cup against India.

Dravid doesn't seem to play fast at all when batting first, he'll score quick runs if he absolutely needs to when chasing. Inzi is aggressive all over, and is considered the backbone of the Pakistani batting line-up. I love 'em both.
