I'm looking for an all round Internet security suite and I don't mind having to pay a yearly fee - as long as it's not too expensive. Something with good all round protection: viruses, adware, spyware and so on, but it musn't be a system hog or cause neverending trouble with games. Any suggestions? :)

If you're ready to pay, go in for Kaspersky. They have one of the best virus definition database.
Bitdefender is good as well, but I've not had the best experience using it.

If you prefer to stay free, I would suggest avast.
I have McAfee preloaded on my computer, and It performs a good job, and doesn't hog the system resources.

NOD32 is only ?20 a year - does it (and others mentioned here) come with AVG's excellent link scanner (which doesn't seem to be working since I went on Win 7 for some reason)? It puts a tick or cross next to each entry on Google, letting you know if there's anything bad on the site.

Edit: Is it best to get a paid security? I've read about many people using the same as me (a combination of AVG, Spybot S & D, Adaware and Win Defender), all of which are free and they're not getting any problems. I haven't experienced any major problems either, but I'm beginning to think that a proper paid for security suite is the way to go - better to avoid getting problems than having to deal with them, if they do ever crop up.

Also, this constant disk access is beginning to worry me a bit. It was doing it even when the router was turned off as well though.

NOD32 is very resource friendly but it has some detection problems it didn't detect a few viruses which were easily picked by Avast! & Avira

And they're both free, aren't they? God, this is confusing. Maybe I should just stick with what I've got.

Kaspersky is the best, I'd say. Has a neat interface, low on memory usage and offers all round protection. NOD32 is excellent, but its real-time protection can be breached, same goes for AVG, Avast, AntiVir, Norton and McAfee is probably the worst.
However, the chances are slim that NOD32 will let you down. Unless you visit dodgy sites, download illegitimate software or exchange media(usb drives) from someone who does, you shouldn't get any malware on your PC.

Thanks for your help. One other thing, since I've been using Win 7, AVG's Link Scanner isn't working. It's active in the interface, but the tick/cross/exclamation mark isn't coming up next to the entry in Google. I made sure to choose to install it when installing AVG 9, but for some reason it's not appearing, neither is the AVG toolbar.

To put it simply, there's a reason why the free AV's are free. Eset has put me in good stead through about 7 years of license use, I wouldn't use anything else.

Sorted now - I reinstalled Firefox and then installed AVG 9 again.

Does Eset come with something similar to AVG's link scanner?

It's a useful thing to be able to see at a glance which sites you should avoid. :)

Edit: Which version do you use:

http://www.eset.co.uk/Products/SmartSecurity

or

http://www.eset.co.uk/Products/Antivirus

Either way, it appears to have gone up. The former's ?39 and the latter's ?29.

Kaspersky is the best out there. I have used many antivirus (trial version) before but Kaspersky licensed version is great. It has friendly interference and easily understandable unlike other Anti-virus. Many Anti-virus fails to remove the dangerous virus but it removes easily. It blocks dangerous websites and stops from downloading dangerous files.. It has many other features too. So go for it. I am currently using Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and My PC is safe with it.

Symantec is gr8 actually the only thing is its a system eater :cutit otherwise virus detection & deletion is very good.
