Boston red sox approach Gilchrist to trun to MLB

cricket isnt the most exciting game in the world?

on this issue, the fielding coach of the australian cricket team (an ex baseball coach) said that if Andrew Symonds, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist had played baseball instead of cricket when growing up then they'd great baseball players, but as they havent then they wont be much chop playing baseball now

Hopefully when Gilly and Brett Lee retire, they can pick up baseball as their sporting career. A few recent Australians have switched sports from playing in Australia to in America. Darren Bennett has gone from playing Aussie Rules to playing NFL, Ben Graham is trying out for a few clubs in America as well.

Its not the way Gilly hits the ball or how he bats that make them think he would be good at baseball its his eyesight, he has an awesome ability to pick up the line and length of a ball quiker than any other player going around which is why he makes such clean contact.
Thats why they believe he can easily adapt to baseball and become fairly succesful and i think he could also, but if he waits till his cricket career is over it will make it harder for him to be succesful at baseball.

Baseball is quite a difficult sport to play. And when you're actually playing it it is not all that boring. In fact there are a lot of sports in the world that are not boring. Its just called opening your mind. Apart from the fact that the bat is difficult to use and the angles are not suited for cricketers, the ball (which is almost like a rock, hehe) comes at over 100 mph regularly at around the height of your chest. That is not exactly a cup of tea to handle.

It'd be well easy for gilly.....................The ball doesnt bounce he'd be hitting full tosses (albiet with changes in pace and movement) down the ground crossbatted.

im not too sure about that because in baseball the ball travels about 34-45 kph quicker than a average fast bowler delivery :)

baseball is the dumbest sport i have ever seen.... its so boring it requires no skill at all.. you just hit the ball and you have 3 balls to do that you run 3 stupid bases... I think gilchirst shouldn't got To the MLB because cricket and the aussies team won't be the same... hes a great great great player.. i enjoy watching him bat.... i beg him not to go to MLB..

Your ignorance astounds me. If cricketers would find baseball easy, they would switch. A couple of years playing in Major League Baseball and they would earn more than they would in a lifetime playing cricket.

cricket is a sport of passion and brains MLB isn't so what if you get paid more do you wanan play for something you love or for something which it pays more money... money isn't everything in the world and plus baseball isn't hard to play for a cricketer

Your argument is not coherent. Baseball is not a dumb or easy game to play. If you consider baseball to be boring, then it is clearly evident why most of the world considers cricket to be boring. If you would care to read any of the posts in the thread you would realize why the switch isn't as easy as you predict it to be. And how exactly do you know that a cricket to baseball switch is easy? Have you done it yourself?

mabey so, but then theres a smaller space in which the ball can be pitched.

There's also a smaller distance from the mound to the batter if I'm not mistaken. The whole training you have to undertake is completely different. You don't really need your skills of judging the length of the ball, bouncing, leaving, deciding where to hit the ball. Cricketers have been brought up on that. They have been taught to think critically about each delivery. Baseball is more straightforward. But it's not easy because you need to have very quick reflexes and prepared to be hurt. The only thing separating you from extreme pain is half a helmet that covers the ear that you will be facing to the pitcher.

peoplehardly ever get hit though. Otherwise they'd wear more protective equiptment, like a proper helmet. They wouldn't wear half a helmet unless they thought a full one (like a cricket helmet) was over excessive.
