An interesting interview he just had with Mark Nicholas on channel 9 during the tea break of the 4th ashes test, when asked if he had any retirement plans he stated that "the world cup would be a great way to go out, in the west indies", but went on to say he wanted to stay in test cricket for a couple more years.

Yeah it would be a good place for him to retire from ODI's. Even better for him if the Windies won.

It was mentioned a few months back that he would retire from the ODI.
Makes things a bit interesting at this WC with McGrath also retiring and the fact that there can't be two dream farewells.

not a shocker....alot of senior players are going to retire this world cup because its not reasonable to think they are going to stay for the next world cup-4 years....so they'll retire from odi and might stay for tests to make their career as long as possible.....

brian lara was a not as good in odis as tests in recent times so i understand his decison.his fitness was not up to mark in odi

a dream scenario
lara on 99 not out
final ball of world cup final
west indies needing 4 runs to tie and 5 runs to win
glenn mcgrath bowling the final ball....

what next?

oh my goodness! only way you can go even more that in 'dreaming' is where west indies need a 6'er to win the match!

good for lara that he is retiring from odi's after the WC. if he needs to prolong his career, he needs to focus on one form of the game. dont know how long sachin is going to continue in both forms of the game!
