Story Brook Harris: My Rise To The Top, If I Get There|NSW vs Victoria|2nd Innings|25 Over Update

Greta story up till now mate. And may I know is it my patch being used?? If so, din't I update stadia??

no, i'm not using your patch, what patch did you make, if it updates the kits i might use it

Watson's doing well so far, I reckon a century's on for him today.

So, as the scorecard suggests, NSW have suffered a huge collapse, and are all out for 188. A small score, but could prove challenging to reach because the pitch is quickly deteriorating and the spinners of Hauritz and the debutant Harris will think that they have died and gone to heaven.

Cameron White was the star of the collapse, at one stage, he was on a hat-trick, only for number 11 Stuart Clark to be dropped on his first ball.

Otherwise, it was Watson's show, scoring almost a third of NSW's final score.

Half-time interview with Shane Watson to come next.

Welcome to Cricinfo TV's half-time interview with Australia and NSW Blues opener Shane Watson, who continued his great run of form by making 62 today, almost a third of the Blues final score.

Thanks for having me Geoffrey, it's nice to be doing the interviews for once.

So, you made 62, and the team made 188, what do you think of your strength in depth as you get further down the order.

20070810watson.jpg
Well, i think we have been a bit unlucky today, we were put in on a green pitch, and the overcast conditions aren't great for batting, the ball was moving and bouncing everywhere, none of the deliveries were the same, you had to watch every single one onto the bat, just to make sure that you didn't miss it. Unfortunately for our guys, they began to get bogged down and tried and hit the spinners out of the ground.

Talking of spinners, you've got a couple up your sleeve, Nathan Hauritz who most of us will know from last summer, and an unknown young brit called Brook Harris. What do you think of both, and how do you think the debutant will fare against the Victoria batsmen?

20070810watson.jpg
Look, i'm not saying it's going to be easy, but he needs to concentrate on his line and length, especially the flight of the ball, both Nathan and Brook will need to flight it to put the Victoria batsmen in an intimidating position, but there are definitely wickets to be had this afternoon.

So, the bottom line is, can you defend this total and win?

20070810watson.jpg
Sure we can, we just need to bowl well, and keep runs to a minimum, it is a tough task, but we can do it.

Thanks Shane, back to you in the studio, that was Cricinfo TV's half-time interview with Shane Watson.

Well, the scoreboard says it all really, Victoria are a long way behind the required run rate, but have only lost a couple of wickets.

Victoria started well, by stroking the ball nicely into the gaps, picking up ones and two's here and there. Unfortunately as the first few others progressed, those ones ad two's became fewer and further between. Clarke was happy to see that Lee was bowling at speeds of up to 97mph, and decided to give him a while bowling from one end whereas Clark wasn't quite up to scratch at the other end and so he was off after only a couple of overs. I knew i wouldn't be replacing him, the coach had said that Nathan (Hauritz) would come on before me, so as the coach had said, Nathan came on before me and had quite a few overs. I was wondering when I would get my chance, the overs kept ticking over, and every time Michael (Clarke) seemed happy to continue with Lee and Hauritz, yes they were keeping the score down, but they weren't taking wickets. Maybe he has something against us brits for winning the ashes, I don't know, but again and again, an over ended and I still wasn't bowling. Eventually, Brett (Lee) was tiring, we could all see it, 97mph had become 94mph, and 94mph had gradually slipped into the 80's. Runs were beginning to come easier for the Victoria openers, and eventually the coach signalled to the captain to get me on.

I bowled my first few overs nervously, I had been a bag of bones ever since I stepped out onto the pitch, what if I dropped a catch? what if I missed a run out opportunity? Eventually though, the team got behind me, they could sense that I was nervous and needed some help. A couple of appeals for stumpings and LBW's were turned down, and Clarke was looking to take me off, however Brad Haddin had other ideas, Clarke signalled to Moises Henriques to get warmed up, and Brad decided to start shouting at Michael Clarke until he was persuaded to keep me on, apparently the pair have been on tenterhooks ever since they got back from the UK only a few months before.

Anyway, overs came and went, and although I was now 3 overs 1 maiden and 4 runs, I still hadn't got that opening wicket, which I was striving for. Brett Lee had returned after a rest, on for Nathan Hauritz, and begun to unsettle the Victoria batsmen. It came in my fourth over, I pitched it up what I thought was a little bit too far, but the batsman just seemed completely bewildered by it, edging it straight to backward point. Arms went up all around the SCG. I was mobbed by my team-mates, all apart from Clarke, who was obviously quite put out that Haddin's idea had worked.

Out of all my team-mates, so far I would say that Moises Henriques is the best guy in the changing rooms, very funny, but knows when to act serious if something needs to be done. One of the main differences between Pro and Amateur cricket is that it is dead silent out in the middle of the SCG, but when you are playing away at Old Merchant Taylors on a pleasant September afternoon, there is loads of banter flying left, right and center.

Stay tuned for more updates

So, we won, but can we carry it into the season proper, our coach sure wasn't happy to see us when we got back into the changing rooms. He said that we didn't look like a team, he lost it with Brad, threatened to drop him after shouting at the Captain to keep me on. He said that we should respect the captain's decision, whether we like it or not.
Then, he turned to me, I was waiting for a rollacking, but I didn't get it. He was full of praise for me, said that whenever I was free during the winter, there would always be a place for me in the Blues side. I thanked him for the offer, and said that I would continue performances like the one I had just put in.

Once i left the stadium, i was left to reflect on just how great todays match had been, I couldn't believe it. I was on Cricinfo for flips sake, up on the internet with the likes of Michael Clarke, Shane Watson and Brad Haddin. We'd agreed to go out for a drink later, Shane said he knew of a bar close to my hotel where we wouldn't get mobbed for being Blues players.

So, tomorrow, we announce the squad for the upcoming season, including some new players who are joining us for a few weeks before going off with their respective countries. Also, the schedule is announced and we will find out when we lose our internationals.

Great presentation mate nice to see your work:hpraise:hpraise
