I know this is a bit of a naff discussion topic but i was a big panesar fan and up until just over a year ago he was one of englands first picks if not the first after the captain.
Is it just a confidence thing or has he been found out, or is his lack of variety his downfall?
Id like to think he can comeback but with swann doing so well is the end of englands "greatest fielder":laugh

No chance of getting back in. He's far too one dimensional to have a chance at getting back in the Test side. His bowling looked barely County standard last year, let alone International standard. His fielding is still atrocious, as is his batting. Swann, Rashid and Tredwell are all miles better bowlers than Panesar. Unless he suddenly develops a couple of magic deliveries he's not getting back in.

its crazy to think how well he was doing and he used to get some of the key international batsmen out alot, near the end of his stint in the side he could barely get a tailender out.
How the mighty fall.......

His strength became his weakness. He was able to hit the same spot over and over again...but batsmen eventually realised that was all he could do.

I agree with that, never looked at it like that before.
A one trick pony....

Monty is never coming back :(

Can't catch
Can't field
Can't bat
and most important of all
can't bowl all to well

Harsh to say those two are better bowlers than Monty especially as a test match option ATM. But i'd give you those two are better & have a better all-round package as ODI bowlers than him.

Play him against Pakistan and he will definitely a get a five wicket hall in his comeback game :facepalm

A bit of a long shot now, with Swann and Rashid bowling well.

Was it Tredwell who made the SA tour?

Nope, pretty sure it was Gash, and he's since been dropped in place of Tredwell. Swann and Rashid were the 2 spinners at the start of the series, then Tredwell was brought in as cover for Swann who was carrying an injury.

Agreed. Swann on the other hand can catch, can field, can bat, and definately can bowl. Sorry Monty, seems like your international career might just be over.

i don't know, at the moment it seems as though he doesn't have much of a chance of getting back in, but if he has a good county summer this year, then he might have a chance at getting on the plane to Australia. I suppose all it takes is for the Aussies to prepare a pitch that will rip up as the game progresses, which means that 2 spinners would be needed and Monty is probably back.

I agree with Zorax's point, but i think that he could come back
