Moody steps down

Tom Moody takes a question from the media

In a press conference earlier in the week, Warriors manager and head coach Tom Moody, officially stepped down from his position, stating, "family problems and other personal commitments" took precedence over helming the prestigious cricket club. "Long" Tom Moody played 300 first-class matches, scoring 21001 runs at an average of 46.25, and also took 361 wickets at an average of 30.70. He also played eight tests for Australia, scoring 456 runs at 32.57.

Brent Evans was named as his successor later in the week, a relative unknown to the cricketing community. Hailing from the Magpies, a club-level team located in the northern suburbs of Perth, Evans was a talented all-rounder who scored 3254 runs at 30.42, and collected 312 wickets at 34.10. He was player-coach of his side, and has coached several other clubs, as well as several youth teams. Western Australia will be his first state gig.

Thanks, haha that was a quick response. Yeah, I've been here a while, and I mostly just download without contributing much, but that's about to change, hehe.

Hope you enjoy the thread!

Ah your one of those ghosts then :p I generally just hang around in this part of the forum. I try and reguarly update my story but it is getting harder these days due to exams

It was a good start so I'm expecting a high standard of work, mister :laugh :p

Wounded Warrior: Marcus North

Brent Evans has wasted no time at all in making changes to his new Warriors, releasing players Andrew James, Scott Meuleman and Peter Worthington from their contracts. Evans has also proven to be a skilled negotiator, managing to keep Chris Rogers at the club, despite his growing disapproval of being left out of the state one-day side.

David Bandy, Liam Davis, Brett Dorey, Ben Edmonson, Adam Gilchrist, Shawn Gillies and Justin Langer have all had their contracts renewed, and they will be negotiated later in the week.

Bad news on the injury front, though, for the Warriors as captain Marcus North will have to sit on the sidelines for four months after breaking his leg whilst on holiday with family.

Wow some big changes there. With the skip out of action that might cause a few problems as well.

It will be an interesting side in the first match. Great update though :)

You have re-signed the two big names, that must be pleasing. I hope Rogers stays with WA.

Langer to declare innings

Langer: scored lotsa runs

Justin Langer has announced his intention to retire from all forms of cricket at the end of this domestic season. The former Australian opener and WA skipper retired from the international form of the game after the 2005 Ashes Series, going alongside other greats Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

Complimenting dominating Matthew Hayden's aggressive style with his own rugged style of batting, Langer developed one of the games greatest opening partnerships alongside Hayden. Debuting for Australia in 1993, he scored 7696 runs at an impressive average of 45.27, which only rose the older he got. His top score of 250 was one of his 23 Test centuries. Only making the Australian ODI side eight times, Langer clocked up 160 runs with an average of 32, at an impressive strike rate of 88.88. At first-class level he scored 18772 (for a total of 26468) runs at an average of 53.48, scoring 58 centuries, and a highest score of 342.

Although his career is not over yet. Langer will be willing to help lead the Warriors to both Ford Ranger and Pura Cup victories this year, with the help of other Australian test batsman/wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist. "I think it's the beginning of a new era now that Brent has arrived at the club," said Langer. "He's made changes to the list already, and when Gilly, Hogga and myself retire, there will be a very young list hoping to make a name for themselves, so my aim is to play as well as I can in the year I have left and hopefully leave a mark on the younger players."

One last big season for Langer so that he goes out on a high :D

Excellent writing skills mate.

One suggestion maybe have a sig which links to this story to attract attention to it. I would have mine up if it wasn't for Hooper

Haha, Tom.

Nice story mate, looks like your starting from next season with Langer going. Nice work on keeping the Ranga in the side. ;)

Good to see a story by a fellow Perth boy. :D

OOC: Yes, I realise the rosters are missing a few players/still have Hoggy and Langer, but on CC07 the rosters are like that and I'm not exactly sure how to update them.

Queensland Bulls vs. Retravision Warriors
Ford Ranger Cup

15 October 2008
Toss: Queensland won the toss and chose to bat
MoM: A Symonds
Result: Queensland won by 23 runs

Andrew Symonds cuts his way to an unbeaten 78

After a dominating late-innings performance by Andrew Symonds, the Retravision Warriors have fallen tantalisingly short of a round one victory over the Queensland Bulls. The Bulls were off to a flyer, with Jason Arnberger and Jimmy Maher piling on a 104-run opening partnership before Brad Hogg cleanly bowled Arnberger with his third ball in the 17th over. Managing to take 3 more quick wickets, the Warriors had the Bulls at 4/157 after 27.4 overs, but that's when Andrew Symonds took to the crease, having his way with the West Australian bowlers, smashing a quickfire 78 from just 64 deliveries.

The intentions of WA's two opening batsmen, Adam Gilchrist and Luke Ronchi, were made clear in the opening overs, with the openers making 84 runs in just 39 minutes, with just 19 of those runs going to Ronchi. Justin Langer kept up the attack when he came to the crease, albeit more slowly than Ronchi and Gilchrist. Just as the Warriors started to fall off the pace, Gilchrist hit four consecutive boundaries on his way to a 21-run over, before bowing out on Andrew Symonds' first delivery, finishing on 88 from 75 deliveries. Shaun Marsh fell next ball, and captain Adam Voges was forced to face a dangerous hat-trick delivery. The Warriors were in trouble at this point, with the required run-rate getting higher and higher. Langer and Voges took to the Queensland bowlers, but unfortunately ran out of overs. Voges lost his wicket on the final ball, finishing with 73 from 89, and Justin Langer finished unbeaten on 89.

Despite a first setback, Adam Gilchrist announced his confidence in the Retravision Warriors to win both state cups this year. "We have a young, talented side mixed with lots of international experience, and now that Hogga and I are in the side full-time will definitely help, I think."
