Right, I can't see a thread like this on the first page, so here goes. I figure we should have a thread for all those games which you either won by the closest of margins or lost when on the brink of winning. A kind of vent your frustration thread if you will.

My own experience was with Surrey. I'd just started a new game and won both FC games so was confident, so I approached my first 50 Over game against Sussex. They managed to score 270 or so after a poor start so I was fine with that. However, I crashed and burned to something like 60/5, with the required rate above 7. Anyhow, Benning was joined at the crease by Clarke and after a steady start, they start to fire. I was getting closer, in the last ten I needed something like 59 runs. However, with 5 overs and 30 runs to go, Benning gets out. I'm thinking fine, I send in Murtagh to see what he can do, out second ball duck, Mahmood, first ball duck. Anyhow, I got to my last wicket which was Clarke and Kumble, I'd given up hope with 16 needed, only for Kumble to score 11 and Clarke 4 off the last ball to take me to a one run defeat.

It was one of those annoying games, where you go from being in trouble, to snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

So anyhow, share your experiences here.

I've had many county championship games where I've needed 200 in the final session and just sneaked it or missed out.

But the most exciting is when the oppo is batting for a draw. Ashley Giles at one end turning it square and Heath streak at t'other, and I've had the final wicket in the last over.

As for annoying, it means little but when you're bowled out for 398 or something going for that extra batting point at 400.

I had something similar in one of the FC games I mentioned. I ended up needing 4 wickets in the last 15 overs of the match due to rain and Mahmood got them.

I had one amazing match this morning when I bowled Someret out for about 400-odd (started well, getting them at around 160/4 at one stage), then Surrey were close to avoiding the followon (8 runs short).
I followed on, paid off the deficit with about 2/3 wickets then Mark Butcher and Rikki Clarke had an amazing 250 run partnership to give them 200 to chase down in 1 and a half sessions, giving me a safe draw, with a possible win if I bowled amazingly.

In fact, I did bowl amazingly, getting the score to about 30/6! Thought I was definately gonna win it! But they shut up shop in the end and survived. Still got 3 points more than them despite following on.

I have won once after following on, against Surrey. I think that might well have been when I got them all out in two sessions and Giles got a wicket in the last over.

Twas a while ago, so I may have got them mixed up, but I did beat Surrey after following on.

it was an online FC. only my second game, lost the toss, my opponent elected to bat first and the colossal innings begin in a sunny day. as far i remember he declared his innings after scoring 450+ in 2 days, losing less than 5wickets. my bowlers were in such a poor form.

i kicked off my first innings badly. all out at 310 or somthin. obviously my opponent figured hes gonna get a easy win here. his second innings was declared when i had to score 410 to win the match, one and half days left. considering my last innings and batting in day4 in the toughest pitch, i wasn't even close to think anything but loss.

i won the match at last over, after scoring 411/8. a fairy tale, best match i ever played. wish had the screenshot to show off.
