Stuart Clark, Phil Jacques and Mitchell Johnson are the three new faces in the list of contracted national cricketers, a 25-member group that Cricket Australia announced today. They replaced James Hopes, Cameron White and Mick Lewis. Brett Dorey, who was also upgraded to a contract after selection for several VB Series matches last summer, has not been offered a full contract.

"Jaques, Clark and Johnson have all performed very well over the past 12 months and have been rewarded with contracts, while Hopes, Lewis, White and Dorey's contracts haven't been renewed on this occasion," said Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of the National Selection Panel (NSP). "However, they are quality players and we look forward to them performing well in domestic cricket and putting their name forward again for future selections."

The contracted players are paid a base retainer, which is levelled according to a player ranking system decided by the NSP. Each player also receives match fees, tour fees and prize money for on-field success.

List of contracted players Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Daniel Cullen Adam Gilchrist, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich, Justin Langer, Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Shane Warne, Shane Watson.

Can't believe Cosgrove missed out. Good to see Tait still in there and not being dropped out.

Haddin was always going to get in there, he is the backup keeper and still is young. Hartley and Ronchi will get their time in the sun sometime in the future.

Agreed, Haddin has done admirable work in the development of his game over the past few years in pursuit of a Test berth, has overhauled his technique and taken his glovework to a new level, and his performances reflect that. He was well deserved of the contract; the emerging keepers are still on the ascendancy. I'm pleased about Hopes losing his contract, although disappointed about Cosgrove missing out.

Haddin is next in line to replace Gilly and deservedly so, none of his challengers have proven much at FC level yet and I wouldn't be counting on Gilly playing for long enough for Haddin to be deemed too old to replace him.

Yep,and even if you are injured for a certain period you still get paid by the board as you are contracted.

Personally dissapointed to see Cosgrove missing. If Mitchell Johnson deserves one then so does Cosgrove.

No. Wrong. Haddin is batting better then Ronchi and Hartley currently.

And of course, Left Hander, what else would it do?

Yep, even if you don't participate in any one of the international fixtures during the course of your contract. I think the standard contract (minimum wage, applied for rookies) is an annual payment of $200,000...
By the way, this obviously doesn't include additional endorsements, match fees, bonuses, etc....

That doesn't matter! Who's in the better form? Who's scored more runs? And who has to lead a crap team?
