Cricket for Americans

This is something I've always thought of and I've seen some members post about too, why don't Americans like cricket to the scale that they like their other sports? One answer could be there's no more room for another bat and ball game which is understandable. But here's why I think cricket is PERFECT for Americans;

-Takes a whole day to play
-Lots of protective gear
-A lot of confusing rules
-Fast paced, always some action (in regards to T20)

It's tailor made for them! Or maybe the rules are too confusing :p

That first point is one of the reasons why Americans don't take to cricket. They are used to games finishing in a few hrs. For them, even a whole day is overkill. And they laugh at test cricket which ends in a draw despite 5 days of cricket.

T20 might be a game that might appeal more to Americans due to its duration and its fast paced action

I thought baseball, NFL etc all last hours upon hours? I haven't actually sat and watched any NFL or Baseball. I do watch basketball however and they even manage to drag that out somehow

Baseball last for hours but not for days. ;) also these people are very straight forward in having things simple as possible. If you already have the game to throw the ball from a static place(base ball), why pains & efforts to run and throw the same ball with such difficulties(cricket).

If you have already a game where you only have to wait for 3 wickets in 9 innings on a same day( baseball), why efforts & pain to wait for 10 wickets to fall for 4 innings in 5 days( cricket )?

These are not my views but the actual question asked by a American in my workplace when he was so much interested on people taking off here(in US) during 2011 WCup matches. ;)

I laugh at most of the suggestions in the OP, "lots of protective gear" like they don't wear in their own daftly named "football"......................?

And as for taking all day, they drag out a lot of their sports for sponsorship.

Last but not least the complicated rules, no more difficult to grasp than yankball, and at a basic level easy enough for any kids to play with a bat, ball and stumps. Sure you have levels of understanding, like LBW etc, but so do lots of video games.

They are basically ingrained from a young age to believe in their own sports, most don't have the patience for something as pedestrian as cricket and frankly we don't really care if they don't go for it or not. They probably care more about boasting at what the yooo esss of aaay is good at, and promoting their own dumbass 'sports' than taking on board something relatively sophisticated like cricket

True, the protective gear might remind them of their great sport, handegg :lol

In fairness, this might have something to do with American problems.

American Football lasts around 3-4 hours. Baseball lasts around the same. ODI and Test cricket are way too long for most Americans. T20 could hit it off in America but it would take quite some time, due to the image that cricket has in America of being a boring, confusing sport. They would also need to dumb down cricket's language to appeal to the masses to make it take off faster.

They hate sweat I think. Or else it is a attractive game with tons of stress and long game.

Yes, the country with the most gold medals in the olympics hates sweat. Lets get real, here.

Forgot to add, will need to introduce steroids into the game as well! :p

In all seriousness, that documentary is really interesting seems like a lot of people are really trying to back cricket out there and actually get the wheels in motion for it to become something, the future seems promising for them!
