Dav Whatmore, the Bangladesh coach, says he has had "positive discussions" with Ravi Shastri, the Indian cricket manager, about the prospect of his taking the India job when his term with Bangladesh ends after the ongoing two-Test series.

I believ he'll make a good coach and will lift India out of the crisis it is in.

The pressure of the job and the burden if you will is placed on the coaches by the fans. Nobody else in the world would take a job where you receive death threats to yourself and your family I think that situation is ridiculous but that isnt the issue. I see him only bringing a positive influence and the fact that he wants the job and wasnt recruited can only add to Indian cricket fans confidence

I think what he is trying to say is that Team India is not performing to its potential. He can help them but it will take some time ands wants the fans to be patient with him.

He is a good coach. I hope he can handle the players.

He is a very good Coach for India, some who is laid back like John Wright and the biggest advantage is his Knowledge of Cricket in Sub continent

Greg Chappell wanted the job. He gave a presentation back when the board decided on John Wright instead of him, and then he came back the next time the coach's position was up for grabs.

I think what we should have (and apparently haven't) learned over the last few years is that we should not expect the coach to work miracles. So anyone who thinks Dav Whatmore will fly in and bring us World Cup and overseas glory from the get-go should go sip on some coffee.

Its up to the players but a coach will guide them through

The guy is a very good international coach, and with his record he should be able to command the respect of the older players.

With the job he has done with the Bangla youth players then the future should look bright, as I imagine Indian youngsters have more talent than most Bangladeshi's and Watmore has shown he can bring youth on.

Yes Chapple was the under-19 star batsman for England couple of years ago.
I remember he scored a double against the colts.God knows where he's disappeared now !

Mahmudur Rahman, CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), says that outgoing coach Dav Whatmore lacked a "characteristic essential" in dealing with sub-continental teams

What rubbish ?

This is precisely the thing I hate about the sub-continental cricket boards

It's just a bit of jealousy/anger from the BCB. Clearly Whatmore understands subcontinental teams because he brought Sri Lanka to the limelight and then made Bangladesh a team capable of beating the best in the world on their day.

I don't think the Indian team requires a coach. Greg Chappell or Wright, or whoever, they are at a stage where they require good manager. May be a domestic coach, Gavaskar or someone else who can deal with the players better.

Don't know if Whatmore will work with India but he certainly can build a team up like he has with SL and now Bangladesh.
