I just came across this article. How true is this ?

With Duncan Fletcher set to leave after the World Cup, as his contract is coming to an end, the BCCI has started looking for a new coach for the Indian team.

"We are talking to a few people. We have also asked the senior players in the side to give their opinion," a source in the Board told TOI on Tuesday. The source revealed that Fletcher had wanted to quit some months back citing his wife's ill health. However, with the World Cup and important tours round the corner, he was asked to stay back. While the nationality of the coach is not an issue, the board's primary concern is that he should be able to 'communicate well with the boys'.

The detailed link is here.

He certainly should leave(enough!), despite how true or false that statement is.

Also the wealthy BCCI should stop appointing low costing dolls. They need to get one like Kirsten or some other who've got an active brain for making tactics relative decisions etc.

Mike Hussey being our former captain's choice...If N Srinivasan still would be heading the board post the World Cup, I wouldn't be surprised to see Stephen Fleming at the helm.

^ I wouldn't mind either of those 2 because they both have a solid cricket brain. However, Fleming has already denied the coaching role of India. I am also not sure that Mike Hussey would take that challenge as he is still playing in IPL and BBL.

The BCCI needs to create a hierarchy for coaching the national team.

Director of Cricket
Head Coach(preferably Indian)
Asst.Coach

Bowling Coach (200% needed, import this guy)
Fielding Consultant

This team won't require a batting coach. Although if the need arises, one may be roped in for the same.

I wouldn't say that Fletcher is (or was) a bad coach: he lead England to that 2005 Ashes win with a team that on paper wasn't as good as that Australian team. Then again; that WAS ten years ago...

I agree on the bowling coach part. We definitely need a bowling coach because our current fast bowlers have talent but they lack control. Ishant is way too inconsistent to be the leader of the bowling attack. Other guys are still very inexperienced. So we need someone who can teach them to have control on their bowling without compromising on their pace. As good as our batting is, If we don't have bowlers who can get us 20 wickets, we will not win overseas.

I get the point of a Director of Football at clubs. When a manager is not adept at tacking the financial aspects, the Director of Football takes care of financial side of the club, like player wages, or negotiating the transfer fees for a player that the coach wants to sign, and so on.

However just what role would a Director of Cricket serve.

A head coach and Captain should be capable enough to come up with strategies among themselves, and the support staff (A Batting, Bowling and Fielding Coach, along with other support staff, like medical staff etc.) should be there to help train the players, be it regular training, or for a specific tactic, or fielding practice.

There is no need to start creating new positions straight out of football clubs. The main role is Captain and Coach. If they cannot come up with the right strategy then its pointless. Of course there could be a situation where they have the strategy, but the players cannot execute it. However even so how will a Director of Cricket help here.

he was certainly good and more active then.. while i guess he is still sound for technical advise for batsman..he has declined very much otherwise to that coach.

I guess it is a true news. Have read it in a few papers. Duncan Fletcher struck a good affinity with Dhoni during his tenure, as Dhoni sees way out after world cup so should Fletcher. No matter how docile it sounds I think India needs a Mike Hussy or a Steven Fleming.

Mike Hussey ? Seriosuly. The bloke is still playing. What we need is a person who can help the team on tours abroad. Playing at home, we really don't need a coach. Its the away tours on which we find the need for one.
