Earth Hour

I did it. Was hard eating pizza in the dark. At least the TV provided some light.

It's completely pointless, a few people turning off lights for a few hours isn't going to make a telling difference to global warming. I have my lights off for the time i'm asleep, thats enough.

Any way of reducing our energy output is not pointless, every little helps BUT this is not the kind of thing that we should be encouraging to do on a yearly basis, we need to improve our energy usage on a day-to-day normal working day kind of level and everyone needs to change their lifestyle for it to work really effectively.
At least Earth Hour has raised awareness, but I hope this has now encouraged people to change their lifestyles to help the world.

Don't worry everyone, I turned all the lights on in my house to balance out the effect ;)

It's not about that hour reducing power used, but making people aware of the fact that we don't need every single light in the house on all day. Only have them on when you need them in that room.

Anyone sensible would do that anyway. I've always turned lights off in rooms I'm not using. Saves money as much as anything else.

Also, in some countries the daylight lasts longer, so there is no need anyways. Where nights are shorter, so you don't keep them on for long.

Secondly, people should plug off the TV and other electrics, before going to sleep, teacher told it uses total of 20% of unwanted energy, also saves money as said above.

There are lots and lots of people in UK and US (especially), that are said to be "obese", and 60% and apart from that 80% of the people do not keep themselves fit, so they should walk more instead of driving cars for place you can get in 5 mins by walking.

change in economic conditions > change in lifestyle > global warming

Turning lights off is something that children should be taught. Its true, you don't teach old dogs new tricks. In a way that if you told my Grandfather to change his way, he'd stick two fingers up at it because its the way he's always lived.

As children if we're taught better economic values, i mean, i remember in primary always being taught to turn stuff off, same with home. I was never told some of these more modern things like take a bus instead of a car etc. because for one it was relevant, and two, no one cared too much back then, 7 years ago (That is totally scary, 7 years since leaving primary school, i'm old, ahh its ok, i just think of Kev and i feel like a baby ;) jokes)

I dont believe in turning it off for a few hrs in one day. I agree that our lifestyles must be changed. I also agree with Simbazz that the upcoming generations must be taught about conservation of energy and all those things so that they do it better than us. Its easy to teach children and it remains with them for a long long time (life long!).

Also we could make some changes like switching off lights that are not required. Sometimes, I would be alone at him playing with my laptop in my bedroom and my kitchen lights and the closet lights would be on. I can switch those off and use only the light in my bedroom. These things, I can do.

The lights off made it easier to enjoy the movie....the Tasman bridge in Hobart turned off the lights, I do hope no one was trying to cross the bridge at that time!

I didn't hear of any accidents, but hey I wonder if the cars turned their lights off for the hour?

No? Hey it all helps.

no, but it'll stop people from driving their cars which will help ;)
