Seems to be out of favour with the selectors. And I don't believe his 4 day form has been good enough to put him in contention for a test birth, nor is he playing for the England Lions.

So what is the possibility that Ed Joyce will go back and play for Ireland in the next few years? Mr. Nixon could help us out on this one.

Having him back in the team would be great for the development of Irish cricket, and it gives younger blokes someone to look upto with regards to talent and professionalism, and he is a decent player.

I'd be quite happy for Ed Joyce to be back in the Ireland side, it's a disgrace that he was able to play for England in the first place. He'd be eligible for Ireland again on the 5th of April 2011, unless he plays for England or England A again in the meantime.

Why would it make a difference?

Saqlain Mushtaq can play for England now that he married an English girl!!

Saqlain Mushtaq will not be eligible to play for England until April 2008 because he needs to qualify for a British passport.

He shouldn't. It's one thing selecting someone not born in the country but to select someone who has played a lot of games for another Country would be ludicrous.

Do you think he'll get selected?

As much as England need a player like Mushtaq, I hope he doesn't get selected. The England cricket team should remain exactly that, the England cricket team. No matter what some bigoted Australians might think, every player in the current squad is English.

Pietersen?

He already has a British passport.

Pietersen?

English since the day he was born due to having an English parent. He's certainly more English than Andrew Symonds is Australian.

pride is in playing for your nation not playing for teams where you want fame and popularity

I have also said on another thread that Saqlain's loyalty will be in question and I do agree with Lee as well its an England team.

As for Ed Joyce I recommend he play more cricket for Middlesex and if he gets runs within the next 2 years he could get selected.
I never saw him as an opener anyway to be honest.

So you're quite happy for Ed Joyce to play for England despite having no connections to England and having already played numerous times for another country, but not for Saqlain Mushtaq to do the same?

I wasn't a fan of Ed Joyce playing for England but Ireland are hardly a cricketing superpower like Pakistan and Mushtaq has played over 49 tests and 169 ODIs for Pakistan whereas Joyce has played only a handful of games for Ireland.
