Empire: Total War

Yea you really have to think a few turns ahead and making money is really hard.

I'm waiting for the Tsardoms mod. It focuses on the Balkans and should be really good.

If you don't like to read a lot of text; the whole Total War series is a combination of both a turn based strategy map and a real time battle map.

The game is more designed for a person to play turn based and ignore the real time elements than the other way around. The Battle Map is a lot harder, it's not like Dune 2 style games such as Command & Conquer or Starcraft; it is very realistic in terms of manoeuvres. Sun Tzu's The Art of War is very applicable.

To be honest, if you're not into Civ, you should just look elsewhere. It is a game requiring a lot of thought.

I disagree: I couldn't get into Civ at all, but I love the TW games, I probably spend more time on the map than I do in battles...

Installed Empire:TW yesterday and after going through some tut's i was amazed at the level of detail in the game, its awesome.Then started the Grand Campaign and i must say the Battle Map is a bit hard for me as i have never played TW games.After 3 or so turn's really got the whole concept and i must say its great.Looking forward to play it more tonight.

So you haven't had any crashing problems or the like? Lucky you, many people are having major problems with this one. Personally, I'm going to hold fire until I hear that most problems have been patched out, even if that means waiting for the Gold Edition (inevitable expansion + fully patched base game).

Mate, if you like the TW games, look into this:

zavvi: Medieval II: Total War Gold PC

You might be able to find it cheaper. A while back, they were doing it for ?8.95, don't know why they've put it back up. Anyway, there are some really exciting mods coming out for it as well, including a Lord of the Rings one and a Roman one.

If you like TW you need to check out the Total War Centre.
