Rumoured Discontent in the Home Counties dressing room
Despite an impressive victory against NRC champions The Suns, there was eyebrows raised about the Home Counties performance and in particular one key absentee. William George Charles was not in the starting xi despite starting in the previous 3 and only missed one NRC game due to commitments elsewhere. The young starlet of the England national team has had a quite inconsistent performances in domestic cricket this year with high highs and low lows. At the toss Home Counties captain, England international Gary St John, said that he was rested due to a potential niggle and workload issues. Which would make sense and believable at face value if it wasn't for the fact the club had paid for a private jet to bring Clinton Hintz to London hours after starring for New Zealand in a test match victory in Harare only 2 days ago. An alternate reason for his omission has come to light though. An anonymous source inside the club has told the BBC that, Charles had been heard openly criticising, St John's captaincy and the coach Michael Gaiting's leadership especially after a woeful NRC campaign where they finished dead last. So with the team having won 3 out of 4 in the FPT so far and Charles' replacement Joseph Friend scoring a vital 78 last match, his future at the club is in jeopardy and if any repercussions or aftermath will spill over into his relationship with St John with England and with the whole England setup as a whole.
