Ethicality of using 5 spinners in a game / not using pace

There are no ethics involved in team selection. You pick XI best suited for your success. If it means picking 5 spinners then so be it.

Yeah, I feel the same way.
With all due respect to teh thread starter, I believe that this is a very silly question.

if they think that's the way to win the match then why not. it always seems that the spinners are more succesful in twenty20 anyway.
The big question is what will alan butcher bring to zimbabwe cricket

I don't think there's a question of ethics. It is the side choosing 5 spinners that is taking the gamble. If spin ends up not being the way to go, they are screwed.

If this is unethical, it would be unethical to play an XI comprised of only pure batsmen. It would be unethical to play an XI that had 3 keepers in it, etc. It's really up to each team to decide how much/little they want to diversify their team composition.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

It's akin to asking if it's unethical to only have left handed batsmen or something. It's not against the rules and it's not against the Spirit of the game, so it's not an issue.

It may not be ethical but it won Zimbabwe the match.

It probably wasn't unethical though tbh.

Bdesh opened with Razzak in the past few times in ODIs and T20s. That was when he was good...

You could also say if a team prepares a pitch suited for seamers and they use 5 quicks then its the same principle. Spinners are equal to Seamers, so whether you use 5 of either shouldn't matter.

Word. Weird thread i must say. I reckon what Zimbabwe did in that T20 is just is totally uncommon.

I my history is right, in the days of uncovered wickets what ZIM did was done fairly frequently.
