PES is 2 generations behind FIFA (FIFA is using a PS3/360 engine, PES uses a PS1 engine)

Actually, the PES6 engine was built specially for the PS2, and the 2008 engine for PC, 360 and PS3 was a modified version of this which upgraded the animation and texture compartment.

PES8/2009 is having a new engine built from the ground up, which should bring it back to form. I dont know why there has been so much negativity about PES2008, I'm still playing it and enjoying it, it actually achieved better critical success than "next gen" FIFA.

Madman you seem incredibly determined to hate PES. It wasn't so long ago that you were adoring it and slagging off FIFA. You'll be in one of yoru PES moods again soon enough.

I will of course buy both games this year and enjoy them both. FIFA 08 grew on me because I hated it at first; too sluggish, too irresponsive and too slow but I come to not love it, but like it. PES is still the most enjoyable to me (note I didn't say best) because it's so unpredictable. Every online game I played with Drewska were completely different and we had so much enjoyment in seeing IVory Coast players getting sent flying.

I now prefer FIFA on single player because I just do, but I absolutely hate it online. It takes about 3 hours to pass a ball.

You seem entirely convinced that PES09 won't have a new engine just because 'someone with contacts with someone or other' says so. That's incredibly naive for anything to think like that.

I also hate PES2008, but I dont think 09 can be as bad as 08. For some reason I can imagine 09 having graphics like the ones in the PS2 game intros. That would be cool!

Actually, it was Rooney, Hoyte and penguins.

Only for a split-second, before he felt peckish.

I'm kinda the opposite as far as online/single player goes. I use Fifa loads for online, because although it's a bit unresponsive, there isn't much lag. Whereas, I always get lag in PES online, even if its only minor.

Fifa 09 should be great, some of the features on there look like they're carrying on the good work from Euro 2008, keeping the new features from that in, and improving them.
