Gilchrist could retire from ODIs to extend Test Career (:D)

Haddin definitely deserves first shot at replacing Gilly. As long as he can get to the WC then I'd have no problem with him taking over the rein. However if Ronchi got more consistent I would love to see him take over from Gilly. Having another Gilly type player would be awesome.

Like Gilly.

He can open in OD cricket, like he did most of the time for WA last season. He blasts the bowlers early one and goes after anything. And from reports he is a good glovemen.

I went and saw the Warriors play last season, and he looks promising. Too bad Haddin is there, but Haddin won't last for ever.

I don't see why Gilchrist is a certainty for the Test team to be honest. He's been out of form with the bat in the past year or so, barring the odd good knock, the highest of which came against Bangladesh. He's hardly brilliant with the gloves either, seems that he's one of those living off reputation more than anything to me.

Oh my goodness. I cannot agree with that. I can't be stuffed saying why as yet

He scored 2 50s and the 2nd quickest ever century in the Ashes? That's not good enough for you?

I could agree with MUFC if he wasn't a united fan (:p) and if gilchrist had stronger competition. Gilly's test average has dropped by over 4 since november 2004, so he hasn't been as effective as he was a couple of years ago.

He's still the best keeper batsmen in Australia. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be in the team.

He'd be better off retiring from Tests to prolong his ODI career. He's unstoppable in ODIs, but in Tests he's been worked out and is half the player he was in the longer format.

Typcially it's the poms who think he'd be better off retiring in Test Cricket after what he did to their bowlers last Summer. :p

Nah jokes, I agree with Evo.

But hell, I remember when Gilchrist used to average over 60 in Test Cricket!

Yeah, Gilchrist has dropped off. That comes with age. He isn't as young and athletic as he once was. But he is still capable in Tests. Better then anything any other nation can produce, bar Sangakarra maybe.

Ben, I actually agree with that first line. Jealousy?:p

Yep, around the time when he made that double hundred against the Saffers. That was an amazing run of form at that time.

Haddin has a good record at FC level and did well as back-up keeper.

Ronchi has youth and if he could score a few more runs he could get in.

Tim Paine is only 22 and has opening batsmen's pedigree and kept well when I saw him for Australia A so options there for Australia.

Barring that Century and one against Bangladesh, he's been poor for the last two years at least, averaging something like 30. If that's the best you can manage then I suggest that Australia haven't got the strength in depth that some of you like to make out they have.
