I am probably a bit behind here but I only just found out about this site

You can look at virtually any location from a satelite, the quality isn't great in all areas but check this out (Quality would be better but I compressed the jpeg for posting)

Download is about 10Meg and yes its free

How did you get such a clear view? Mine just has the outline of things.

you have to be looking at an area that has been mapped with more detail, not everywhere has been done yet, I think it tends to be more populated areas. The pic above (if you did not recognise it) is Lord's. Just had a good look around Bagdad.
