"Why Hanif?" was the question, asked by a 12-year-old nephew of mine who had just heard the news that three Pakistanis - Javed Miandad, Imran Khan, and Hanif Mohammad - had been inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame. The boy has been raised on a standard diet of Pakistani cricket DVDs - 1992 World Cup, Sharjah six, great spells of reverse swing - so the inclusion of Miandad and Imran was easy to understand. But who was Hanif, he asked skeptically, and what had he done to merit admission ahead of names like Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul Haq?

Wow, what an amazing player! A triple hundred away from home in the second innings following on after a deficit of 473?!! At 970 minutes, it was the longest Test innings of its time. Fifty years later, it still is.

Highest first class score of 499!! Apparently Hanif didn't know he was on 498, and was run out trying to get to 500 before the end of day's play.

What wouldn't I give to see those two innings?!:hpraise

Certainly was an amazing display of concentration, but such a mismatch of teams at first class level is probably not likely to happen again.
