June 2007 is apon us, and Melbourne Victory have come out with a massive announcment that has put a whole buzz in the A-League.
Victory said they are glad to announce that 22 year old Hayden Sumner has taken over the club becoming their new Manager.

Sumner, who has had a background in the AFL department, crosses from the AFL game, to the real world game where he will try out his skills as Victory's Manager.
Being only 22, he is worth a lot. He could be a long term Manager at the club, so who knows what he'll bring to the table.

Melbourne Victory Chairman Geoff Lord has welcomed Hayden to the Telstra Dome, stating that even though the Media will question his Management credentials, he has the full backing of the club's board.
The Board is expecting Victory to win the A-League in a 2 year plan with Hayden.
Sumner has been given a contract until May 2009 on 2,100 a week

Victory Manager Hayden Sumner had to send one of his players, Adrian Caceres home during the week. Canceres has picked up a cold during the week, and Sumner didn't want him effecting anymore players from the squad, so Sumner told Caceres to go home and not return to the club so he won't affect anyone else. This shouldn't take too long to cure said Sumner, who told Caceres it should only take a week to cure.

So the 1st match of Sumner's Managing career is about to begin, with a friendly match against Fawkner. This game should be dominated by the Victory, as most of the media have thrown out the challenge for Sumner and Melbourne to win by more then 3 goals. It shouldn't really be that much of a challenge.

Melbourne have gone in with their best squad. Archie Thompson and Kevin Muscat leading the team into the game.

Some of the players that will need to stand up for the Victory for them to win this match, will need to be... The 2 strikers. We all know how good Archie is, but we need a little bit more from Danny Allsop said Melbourne Manager. He has been in good form in training, so this will be a good oppourtunity for him to show us what kind of form he is really in.
Archie Thompson, i sat down during the week, and i said, even though it's a friendly match, i was expecting big things from the star. He really needs to fire and kick goals. He has pace to burn, so if we can get the ball down long to him, it shouldn't be a problem for Thompson to get the ball. Theres no doubt he'll be picked up, and won't be able to roam around the offense freely, but that's something he'll need to learn from his game so he can shack a tag.
Here is a little look at the line-up for the friendly.

Victory victors in Sumner's first display

The Melbourne Victory have shown the rest of the A-League they are still here to play, when they defeated Fawkner in a friendly match 4-0.

With a brand new Manager who knows nothing about the sport, the Victory certainly showed they want to win, and impress their new manager Hayden.
With a thrilling friendly match, Sumner was very pleased they got the win. "Like i said when i was first announced as Manager. I have grown up in the background of AFL, but taking a soccer path will do me a lot of good. So having a win in my first match as Manager, is a really good feeling. The players are certainly making my job a little more easier, and being a coach over @ Adelaide, it is certainly hard, getting to training with these guys.

But they have done me very proud in this friendly. With a 4-0 victory, it leads us up in good stead for the upcoming A-League season which i am certainly looking forward too.
It was a great atsmophere at Epping Stadium last night, and it thrilled me. Archie Thompson showed me everything he got. I asked him before the game to not shy back because it's a friendly match. I want to see what my players have to offer, and he cerainly didn't dissapoint. He scored 2 goals in the 2nd half of the match. While our other striker Danny Allsopp scored within the first 5 minutes.
