ICC Test World Cup in 2013?

No, 5 days are enough. Already people talk about 5 days being too long (in this age of T20). 7 days would really stretch it too bad. Only the extreme loyalists of test cricket (whic is coming down these days) would follow such a tournament.

If they go for something like this it has to be only the top 4 who are involved. And more it becomes too complicated. Plus if you have everyone playing the thing would drag on for ages which you don't want happening.

Agree with this. Having only 4 will make teams work harder the rest of the time to climb the rankings and get into the tournament. Otherwise there's no real incentive to play hard in every match, kinda like ODI cricket where everyone gets to go the World Cup.

And as you say having only 4 teams has the added bonus of making the tournament a lot simpler and shorter.

No,play the Tests till the end- or maybe have 6 Day or 7 Day Tests. The tests should gve you a result. Thats the main thing. Somewhat similar to the 'Super Test' we had in 2005

Or in case of a draw you either go on who scored the most runs in the first innings or who is ranked higher in the rankings.

What would happen if England played Australia, would it still be called the ashes?

A knock-out series just wouldn't go along with the spirit of Test Cricket so if this Championship is going to happen then it should NOT be a knock-out series just so that some team LUCKILY gets crowned as Test-champions as usually happens in stupid ODI & T20 World Cups.

But personally, I think this is just pointless & is mostly a result of all the brouhaha about waning of Test-Cricket & that's the reason why ICC idiots are coming up with stupid ideas of day-night Tests, pink balls :facepalm, I wonder if Tennis administrators will consider using wooden paddles instead of their regular rackets to make the game popular :laugh, bottomline is you don't mess with the integrity of any sport.

As for making Tests more competitive, I think the one thing that can be done is to have two divisions in Tests with 5/6 teams in Division 1 & rest in Division 2 & a system where every year (may be two years) the last-ranked team gets relegated to Division 2 & top Division 2 team gets promoted to Division 1. Firstly, this'll give teams to look forward to a goal which is the reason why ICC wants a championship in the first place as those ICC idiots feel that Test Cricket has no goal right now; secondly, Division-system would mean that Div 1 teams can only invite or tour, & play Tests against other teams in Division 1 while Division 2 teams play Tests amongst themselves which'll ensure that there're no stupid series like Ban v Aus or like the recent Ban v Eng which are pointless, uncompetitive & do thing for the popularity of Tests so Division-system will ensure strong competition in almost all Tests played around the world & Test cricket won't have to die :sarcasm

I say some sort of super T20 played on the last (5th) day. I know it is totally opposite to Tests but hey, we need something. Draws suck.

So for me: 4 day games with some limited over game on Day 5 if there is a draw.

How does it work in the County Championship? The Ranji it is first innings total, and I am REALLY not a fan of that.

You can't decide who the Test cricket champion is based on a single limted overs match! That is madness

If the game is a draw, have a 5 over eliminator (like the Super over; but here its 5 overs). If you still dont get a winner, then settle for the draw. In many games, you will know at a point when the game is going to be a draw or not. At that point, the umpires consult with the captains and decide when they want to take that 5 over eliminator. This can get rid of draws on placid wickets. The best way of getting rid of draws is PREPARE SPORTING TRACKS!
