The International Cricket Council has amended its anti-doping code to avoid any repeat of the controversial quashing of drugs bans imposed on Pakistan duo Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.

It's about time, Shoaib and Asif should never have been let off and it's a disgrace that they are still allowed to play international cricket. I certainly hope that something like this is never allowed to happen again. Any person who takes steroids should cop it, and I hope that Shoaib and Asif cop a lot from spectators and players over it.

There is simply no room for people like that in cricket, or any other sport for that matter.

You are a disgrace to this world.

Shoaib Akhtar - I do not know his story - possibly he took it intentionally, POSSIBLY NOT.

We don't know that.

So you cannot really blame him - possibly it appeared in his body because he ate too many meats.

Now Mohammad Asif... He grew up in a poor city (Sheikhapura I believe).

Probably none of you know thats a city in Pakistan, but it is.

He grew up poor, has a very poor education, and he has said that he was drinking energy drinks BUT stopped when the physio told him to when we were touring England.

Asif didn't even know what drugs were at the time... so I cannot see how you can possibly blame the guy. He is not as fortunate as you as to have an education in anything of the sort.

I await the day you guys tour Pakistan, we will give you a lot of crap in the stands, trust me.

A poor upbringing has nothing to do with drugs. You don't get traces of steroids by eating meat. Of course Asif knows what drugs are, He took them

There is no way they would of taken drugs by accident.
International sport has no place for players who do drugs.

You can not test positive for steroids by eating meat, and how does someone unintentionally take banned steroids?

As for Mohammad Asif, being unfortuante has nothing to do with it. Lack of education is exactly the same, I can assure you that the Pakistani Natioanl and even domestic teams would educate their players not to take drugs, and about the side effects and ramifications.

How on earth do you know that he did not know what drugs were at the time? There is no way that he took drugs without knwoing anything about them, and I can assure you that these days he is making plenty of money and he is fortunate enough to get off testing postitive for steroids.

So what makes me a disgrace to this world? I suppose that being angry at drug cheats is classified with terrorists and child abusers? Your bias is overwhelming.

Or is it the fact that I've said something that goes against Pakistan? I suppose that I'm a racist as well? Look at Darrell Hair.

If it had been a player from another country, you would be against them I'm sure.

And frankly, I don't understand how anyone can condone drug use at all. You are simply saying that they either they didn't know what drugs were, or that they took them by accident? How naive and biased can one be?

Even if those were correct, which I can gurantee you that they are not, they still deserve bans. There is NO place for drugs in sport whatsoever, under ANY circumstances.

The fact the both of them missed the world cup through 'injury' says to me that the PCB acknowledge that they did wrong. It's still a farce (Pakistan enjoy them it seems).

Also, there is only one way drugs get into the system. The body doesn't create them and certainly doesn't come from eating meat! I feel sorry for Pakistan fans, they've been let down many a time by their beloved players.

The updates are good, but like putting in a 3rd slip when an edge goes there, it's a bit late. Drugs aren't acceptable in our sport.

Your pretty much on the money there Sureshot.

That should be an example to an international or dometic cricketer.
Do not ever think of doing drugs because the consequences are fatal despite what asset you are to the team.

Couldn't agree more. The example set, especially to young Pakistani children who may perhaps come from small and poor cities like Sheikhapura who idolise players like Asif, and who think to themselves that it is okay to do drugs and that you won't get into trouble.

On top of that it is against the spirit of the game at the highest level.

Shame for Pakistan that Asif looked a very good bowler.
Will he be the same after a year?
I doubt it unless he's playing any sort of competitive cricket but I doubt that anyone will accept him because as you and SS have said its against the spirit of the game and a bad example of kids coming into the game.

Asif said he drank an energy drink, 4-5 times a day, given and recommended to him by the Leicestershire physiotherapist when he played for them in England in 2006. He was given them in May, and he stopped in September, when the Pakistani physio found out about it.

Nandrolone levels can become higher than normal if one eats lots of meats. That is a fact.

You can not test positive for steroids by eating meat, and how does someone unintentionally take banned steroids?

Yes, you can, for nandrolone.

As for Mohammad Asif, being unfortuante has nothing to do with it. Lack of education is exactly the same, I can assure you that the Pakistani Natioanl and even domestic teams would educate their players not to take drugs, and about the side effects and ramifications.

Being unfortunate has a whole lot to do with it. How do you know what the Pakistani teams do in Pakistan? I WENT THROUGH THE SYSTEM. They do not each ANYTHING about drugs. Between June 2005 to March of 2007, there was NOTHING about drugs, either in Urdu, or in English. In April, they started teaching, and we learned about it. But before that, nobody here knew exactly what they were in the rural areas of Pakistan. I played in Islamabad, so surely you would think they would teach us here? The fault clearly lies with the PCB for that.

How on earth do you know that he did not know what drugs were at the time? There is no way that he took drugs without knwoing anything about them, and I can assure you that these days he is making plenty of money and he is fortunate enough to get off testing postitive for steroids.

Yes, he is fortunate. How do I know? He grew up in Sheikhapura. If you went there, and asked anybody on the street, what is nandrolone? What are drugs?

The answer you would get are cigrrattes, shisha, pot, etc. If you asked are there any athletic drugs, to anybody in that city, you would get an answer similar to that of "They are non existant"

Please do not even speak about how I know, without even visiting Pakistan, and these poor cities - because once you visit them, its very obvious.

Well, IMO, blaming somebody for doing something he didn't even know. He was given it by the county therapist, but stopped when the Pakistani physio told him to. He did nothing wrong, but listen to the people who should have known what they are giving their players - the Leicestershire coaching staff and physio are fully responsible.

If it had been a player from another country, you would be against them I'm sure.

It depends on the situation - rewind back to the 2003 World Cup. Shane Warne took steroids, and was attempting to hide them as well. He took them INTENTIONALLY.

And frankly, I don't understand how anyone can condone drug use at all. You are simply saying that they either they didn't know what drugs were, or that they took them by accident? How naive and biased can one be?

I am against drug use at all, but Mohammad Asif had no idea. If you grew up in the same city he did, and was just as talented as him, went on to play international cricket, I can assure you - the same would have happened to you.

Even if those were correct, which I can gurantee you that they are not, they still deserve bans. There is NO place for drugs in sport whatsoever, under ANY circumstances.

How can you guarantee that those aren't correct? Shoaib Akhtar IMO did / does deserve a ban, but if he is in Pakistan colors, I will support him BECAUSE he is representing Pakistan. But that doesn't hide the fact that he deserves it - his story about the meats I don't believe, but if he is playing for Pakistan, and is in Pakistan colors, I will and would support him (during games).

Mohammad Asif had a more convincing story, BACKED up by the county coaching staff, and the Pakistani physio.

How come Shoaib was found with them as well?
They both of them don't play for Leicestershire.
So whats your theory? Shoaib gave them to Asif?

Asif and Shoaib aren't the best of mates off the field...

Asif and Shoaib had the exact same drug, Shoaib doesn't play for Leicestershire and none of the other Leicester players have been found with it.
Could it be a coincidence that 2 Pakistan bowler have the same drug and play for different counties?

I completly understand that there your countrymen and naturally you'd defend them but they have to be gulity.

How should I know what the Leicester physo gave him?

Yes, it is a coincidence. Akhtar doesn't play for county.

Akhtar and Asif aren't friends. They rarely speak to each other. If anything, they are aquaintences (excuse the spelling)

Akhtar - I can see him being guilty. He was taught about drugs in 1998.

Asif - I can't - he never knew about it.
