Opening stand reaches 50
Sparkling Salman! Sedate Shahid!!

The Pakistani openers have raised their 50 run partnership. Salman Butt was in his element as he drove, flicked and punched with panache. His cover drives and punches were a treat to watch.

Shahid Afridi too showed some sparkle but he took a rather cautious route and showed his presence of mind with a run down to the third man for a boundary.

These two have laid a solid platform as Pakistan look to build on from here.

Salman Butt has scored 29 whereas Afridi has scored 19.

India ring in their first change in bowling with the unimpressive Ajit Agarkar making way for the medium pace of Sourav Ganguly.

Keen contest on!

Dravid made a double switch with the seamers giving way to Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh. Ganguly started well with his out swingers troubling Afridi as he started with an absolute Jaffa that the batsman just managed to miss.

But Salman Butt took onto Ganguly and carted him over the wide mid wicket fence for the first six of the series.

Afridi was not to be left behind as he too hit a biggie off Harbhajan.

This is a keen contest going between the bat and ball now, with both the batsmen trying to step up a gear.

Kumble is introduced in place of Ganguly. Pakistan are 67/0.

Kumble strikes in his first over!

Anil Kumble, the ageless war horse has given India their first break through with the wicket of Salman Butt.

The batsman still in high adrenaline after a couple of free scoring overs, charged down the track to Kumble's 3rd ball and tried to clear mid on.

And successfully hit it to Sourav Ganguly who pouched it. Pakistan are 67/1 as Inzamam walks in.

Thats a surprize, captain going on the offensive by batting higher up.

Harbhajan snaps up Afridi!

Harbhajan Singh provided India with the much needed wicket as he trapped Shahid Afridi for a patient 35.

Afridi attempted a predetermined sweep as the bowler bowled a flatter ball that thudded on to his pads.

Afridi was a bit livid as the ball was clearly darting legside but umpire Simon Taufel found no problems with the ball.

Pakistan are 77/2 as they near lunch. Mohammad Yousuf, the gifted right handed bat walks in.

Fascinating contest up ahead!

The indian spinners have put a brake on the Pakistani free scoring syndrome as the pitch exhibited that it takes spin right from Day 1.

Harbhajan was able to spin the ball a long way, and Kumble got the ball to bite the earth and skid through.

Inzamam and Youssuf are in no mood to relent as they take Pakistan to lunch at 83/2 in 29 overs.

Inzamam falls for 2
Pakistan - 87/3

Pakistani batsmen stepped down 2 or 3 gears after lunch and were content in defending the ball or kicking it to safety. Harbhajan broke the shackles when he got one to turn viciously after throwing it wide and inviting Inzi to drive against the spin.

Inzi took in the bait and edged to Dhoni. Inzi scored 2 runs of 49 balls. Younis Khan, the vice captain walks in.
