Any help would be greatly appreciated:

Basically, my iPod appears to be fooked. I took it out of my pocked earlier and I got a red X in a circle, and I have no clue how to get rid of it and access my wonderful music.

Anybody encountered and beaten this problem before?

Cheers in advance.

Try resetting it..

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Abhas added 1 Minutes and 54 Seconds later...

Read this and follow the steps..

Surely that's an urban myth. Or at least I bloody well expect it to be.

Just plain broken is surely more obvious an explanation

Try restoring the software. Go to your iPod in iTunes and there should be a restore button. Beware though, it'll clear all your songs so make sure you have it backed up on your computer.
