Is India playing too much cricket ?

The bench must be formed.
And i believe we will be having a good benchstrength.

The Big3,if they do not play against Pak,it will not make a big difference.
The Tests won't be a problem, all remains to be seen is who will open-Chopra,Jaffer,Gambhir ?
Also, with the VVS and Jumbo in the team,Test cricket wont have much effect on the Team.

As you say manee, rotation is the key.

well I think we should only play against team in the top 10 rankings
not teams like Hong Kong or other teams

If you are referring to the Hong Kong Sixes, it is a six over tournament, with six players which happens once a year - it is hardly going to drain players.

Or Karthik who top scored in England against a very strong new ball attack?

Also, with the VVS and Jumbo in the team,Test cricket wont have much effect on the Team.

But it will soon with Jumbo's impending retirement and replacement by one of the ODI spinners, the fact that the bowlers are mostly the same and that Dhoni (and Karthik) play both forms of the game too.

HongKong Super Sixes features only the top retired players.
Not the current ones.
This years squad also boasts of an All-star team consisting of Kumble,Afridi and others.

The last year has been a packed one for England. If India are playing too much cricket, England certainly are.

They had the Ashes Tests, the Commonwealth Bank tri-series, the World Cup, the Tests against the West Indies, the ODs vs the West Indies, the Tests against India, the ODIs against India, the Twenty20 World Championships, the ODIs vs Sri Lanka and soon the Tests vs Sri Lanka.

All in less than a year.

Yep. Both teams have been playing far too much cricket. Personally, I think there should be an ODI cap per year and also an ODI cap of 5 per series.

On a loosely related note. Afridi and Sehwag have pulled out to play for Pakistan and India Blue respectively.

I'd suggest that only the important Tests be confined to 3-5 Tests.
i.e Ashes,India-Pak.
Also a 3ODI series is alrite.

Acc ICC regulations a 2Test & 3ODI series is deemed to be a complete tour.
But,who will tell this to the respective boards.

Who gets to decide which tours are important and which ones aren't ?

Should take a surway of the whole Indian team and find out..

It's their job they get paid to play a game they love...pfft I wouldn't be complaining.

yeah but effects their fitness and stuff like that ..

They need it for their mental fitness, though and practically the whole of India and every Indian fan alive. :)

After going through this thread,i have come to a few conclusions :

1. All teams are playing quite a lot nowadays.
2. Players are handed out contracts and are expected to work/play like professionals.
3. Cricket Boards need to build up a benchstrength.

NBA, NHL and Baseball players players play non stop for 8 months. Do they complain about burnout. I think the issue is that players are overpaid. If they have wages like ours then they will be playing 365 days and no one will say a thing.
Dont forget your young days. We played all sports and everyday. Any burnout then???????

I was going to say that, other sports play the whole year with a month and a bit break. Football for example although the matches are way more shorter it's week in week out stuff non the less.

And Madden doesn't that last for hours? If it's their 'fitness' thats suffering their obviously not sportsmen. If their not fit get them training can't see whats wrong with it, bare in-mind this isnt the 70's-80's where cricket is just a hobby and players have other part time jobs, this is their full time job for the main big countries...
