Story Joe Hall: The Road To The Top(CK07)

Pre Season Warm Up:
Yorkshire V Glamorgan

Goughie went out and won the toss. The pitch was hard, fast and as flat as a pancake and the sky was clear with no forecast rain. Goughie chose to bat.

Joey and Wood padded up and headed out out to the middle. I knew I should be in for a good 4 days of cricket albeit from the balcony. I spent most of the time when we were batting in 2 places. Most of it was spent up in the balcony talking to most of the players. The other place i spent a little while in was the nets with one of the bowlers. so to the game. It was fun, hard and full of excitement. Here Is my Innings by Innings Summary of the 4 days of play.

Yorkshire 1st Innings

So Sayers and Wood oppened the batting. They both got off to and steady start building no at a reasonable rate. They made an oppening stand of 93 until wood on 46 smashed the ball to the boundary at cover were Wharf was unfortunately standing and took a relatively easy catch. Wood was clearly disapointed with his dismissal as he maid his way back to the pavilion. Then McMillan came out to join Sayers. They also made a reasonable partnership, making 86 for the second wicket until Sayers was caught hooking by O'Shea from a mean bouncer from Simon Jones. The ball zipped at Sayers' face wich he just swung at and top edged. Bad end to a good innings of 85 by Sayers, unfortunately he was bowled a mean ball. The 3rd wicket was followed in quick sucession for only 17. Croft bowled a great leg break turning resonably well on such a flat pitch. Andy gayle attempted a sweep and edged it through to Simon Jones at slips who dived to his left and took it low, gayle dismissed cheaply for 11.

The 4th wicket is when the magic started. McMillan had eased himself in and was playing well when Anthony McGrath joined him at the crease. They played well building on the teams 196/3 steadily, playing their shots well. Some great 4's and 6's. With the score reaching 361/3 Goughie decided to declare. mcmillan And McGrath came back unbeaten on 120 and 71 respectively. Ant seemed a little disapointed he wasn't allowed to make 100.

So the end of a good Innings from the lads but had goughie Declared too soon?

Glamorgan 1st Innings

So our players headed out to field goughie and Hoggy to open the bowling. Dan Cherry and Wasim Jaffer came out to open the Glamorgan Innings. Now i could tell the team knew the biggest threat was Jaffer and Cherry should go easily early Innings. But it didn't quite go to plan.1st ball from Goughie and smash back over his head for 4 from Cherry. This set the tone for the rest of the Innings. Cherry and Jaffer played brilliantly. The lads couldn't break through and whatever they threw down at them they just played it away and never looked to strugle. With the introduction of Adil Rashid to the attack the batsman started to crack. Finaly Adil managed to break through trapping jaffer for a plum LBW on 119. Cosgrove joined Cherry at 214/1. The pair added 54 before a lack of comunication saw confusion and cosgrove runout. then the next over, 3rd ball from Anthony McGrath, Cherry edged it through to Wood at slip for an easy catch. so back Cherry went after a great Innings of 104.

Then Hemp came out to join Powell who was yet to play himself in. They added 70 together in a rather boring patch of play. Then Kemp miss-timed a straight drive, missed the ball completely and was clean bowled, Deon Kruis. Croft came to the crease and imediately looked determined to build on the score of 341/4. By now you could see that everybody was thinking that we had declared too early. He and Powell took the scored to 405 until powell squered one to Hoggard at square leg on 31, bowled by Kruis.
The final wicket of the innings fell on 606 R.Croft caught on the boudary by morkel on 126 from a Hoggard Full toss. 8 runs were added and then they declared on 614/6.

A great Innings by Glamorgan the boys looked worried by the end of it but time was on our side as there was just over a days play left.

what patches u using mate?

Im using ABbh's modified EXE and Tutsi's patch. Other things Im using are burmas bats and multiple face makers faces if that answers your question.

Are you autoplaying their innings by any chance because there is no way that I could have let them score such a big total with patches etc

Nice work though mate :cheers

I didn't play the game I auto played the match I edited a post saying that. I think not having control over the rest of the team adds more realism.

thanks. Training will be tomorow so look out for the update

highlander, what sort of scores do the cpu get when your playing them?

Yeh good presentation and a shame about the GN contract... Nice good score from McMillan there - a good start - just dont stop this story like other personal stories have... :)

Week 2 Training Session: Gayle Shocker

The second training session mirrored the first for me. Being the lazy person I am I still haven't sorted out my gear so I borrowed Hoggy's. I batted realy well this week hitting everything playable and leaving the bad wide ones. This week no mistakes. I played out of my skin and the players bowling their best tryed everything they had a couldn't take my wicket. Craig and Albie were not present at training as Albie had to attend a South African training camp and Craig had to fly out to New Zealand as his father is sick.

I bowled out of my skin aswell making alot of the lads strugle and misread my balls. The training session was goin well until Wood batted. Andrew Gayle threw down a medium pacer that was asking for smacking. So Wood smashed it and Gayle couldn't move quick enough. The ball cannoned into his leg and down he went. Screaming in agony everyone rushed over. The Physio's got out a stetcher and straped him onto it. So we all continued training and half an hour later we got a phone call from the physio's. Andy's tibia had snapped clean in half. The doctors said that he will probably miss the rest of the season. Everyone was devistated as Andy can be relied on to score runs when the chips are down.

We finnished training and headed back to the changing rooms. I ran over to the notice board were this week's team sheet was pinned. I again read out the team sheet:

Yorkshire V Scottish Saltries: C+G Trophy

Yes!!! I made it into the squad. I got a congratulations from the lads and Goughie said that if I play like I did in the nets then I would keep my place in the squad. i headed home and felt happy the fact that I got my chance to play although I'd rather it be under different cercumstances. Unfortunate for Andy.

Depends on the pitch but it can vary from 200 to 400, but I prefer '05 where I have so many patches that the game is really realistic now.

@ Burnsy. really good work mate. Loving this story so far and congrats on getting picked although in unfortunate circumstances. Hopefully you can perform now. Look forward to the match.
