Katich dropped!

Martyn's FC average is over 50 and his test average is 47. Clarke's are both below 40. Martyn is by far the best middle order bat in the country. It is alright to go for a youth policy if there are young batsman scoring runs. However, the only young batsman in the side is failing miserably. So why not put an older, and clearly better, batsman in the team.

Couldnt sum it up better. :clap

Well, I can't understand how Martyn was dropped in the first place. He didn't have a good Ashes tour but he did get screwed over by bad umpiring twice. On his worst outings he has shown more ability than Katich has shown during his best. Simon Katich is Australia's Ian Bell.

Well I think Martyn should still be there. He did have a difficult Ashes, but so did most of the Aussie batters at some point. He is a mastr of the cut stroke. Katich deserved to be dropped!

Martyn definitely deserved more lives but I think the selectors dropped him more because he didn't look interested in playing cricket and not because his form dropped. If you look at the way he got out when the umpires weren't screwing him over, he ran out himself, ran out Ponting, played silly shots and in the field he was dropping sitters. I think the dropping gave Martyn the wake up call he needed. Its a shame he is a bit too old to be able to come back a even better player.

But that's what Martyn is like. He has the classic laid back style just like Mark Waugh did. Yet they kept Waugh around long after he'd stopped being any good. It's not that Martyn doesn't care he is just a very introverted cricketer. He has been Australia's premier batsman of the last 18 months. In fact, at the mid year contract review he was rated the 5th most important Australian player. How can you go from the 5th most important player to not in the test team. It's simply ridiculous. I think the selectors felt they could move him on quietly and no one would think twice. How wrong they were. They've made themselves look very stupid considering how Clarke and Katich are going but then that's nothing new for Australia selectors.

Fair enough on his style of play. I still think he didn't care with his run outs and the catching. Some of the efforts in the field wasn't great by him.

Clarke, only survived by his age, he surely would of been dropped if he was 30. But Hodge has a hundred, so does Symonds. Interesting...

Look at Hodge, he is on fire! He has just hit his third six! of Tino Best! who has gone for 74 from 10 overs.

Fielding in general was substandard on that tour. Not just Martyn.

Well, he won't have a chance if Hodge takes his form into the Test match, but I am sure he will find his feat again with the NSW Blues.
